The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.</p> <p>Position Summary</p> <p>Reporting to the Managing Director of the National Center for Disaster Preparedness (NCDP), the Climate School, Columbia University, the trainer will teach one day and half day courses for the National Center for Disaster Preparedness funded through FEMA's National Training and Education Division. Course content involves themes such Tribal Nation emergency management, community engagement, risk communication, and dealing with extreme weather in Tribal Nations. The trainer will focus on steps that emergency managers in Tribal Nations can take before and after major disasters to plan for long term recovery and resiliency.</p> <p>Responsibilities</p> <ul> <li>Teach one-day courses geared for Tribal Nations (9:00 AM - 5:00 PM) in all 10 FEMA regions of the U.S. pertaining to the FEMA sponsored curriculum. Administer pre- and post-test assessments for each training. </li><li>Teach half-day courses (9:00 AM - 1:00 PM) through virtual platforms (i.e. Zoom and Teams) </li><li>Present information about the program at national U.S. Tribal Nation conferences. </li><li>Provide input and analysis on Tribal course curriculum and assessments as requested. </li><li>Travel to different Tribal Nation training sites throughout the U.S. </li></ul> <p>Minimum Qualifications</p> <ul> <li>Bachelor's Degree and/or its equivalent, preferably in Emergency Management, Economics, Urban Planning, Public Administration, and 3 - 5 years equivalent related experience required. </li><li>Must be willing to travel throughout the 10 FEMA regions of the U.S. to conduct trainings. </li><li>Must be able to conduct PowerPoint based lectures about emergency management in Tribal Nations while also facilitating group discussions and activities outlined within a FEMA approved curriculum. </li><li>Must also be able to manage classroom technology, including a desktop computer, Zoom Meeting rooms and a projector. </li></ul> <p>Preferred Qualifications</p> <ul> <li>Minimum of 10 years of experience teaching Tribal emergency management themes in front of very large audiences. </li></ul> <p>Equal Opportunity Employer / Disability / Veteran</p> <p>Columbia University is committed to the hiring of qualified local residents.</p>
