<p>Job Title Grounds Worker (Part-time) Job Description</p> <p>The grounds worker reports to the Construction/Grounds/Gardens Supervisor and is responsible for supporting the maintenance, safety, and overall appearance of campus outdoor areas. The Grounds Worker helps ensure that the facilities and grounds remain clean, attractive, functional, and well-maintained throughout the year. Duties include routine grounds care as well as assisting with construction and maintenance projects as assigned by the supervisor.</p> <p>Work Schedule</p> <p>Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., up to 28 hours per week.</p> <p>Full Time or Part Time Part Time Essential Duties Summary</p> <p>Duties Include:</p> <ul> <li>Weed-eat and edge sidewalks, curbs, flower beds, and building perimeters. </li><li>Maintain landscaped areas, including mulching, spreading fertilizer, and lime. </li><li>Pick up brush, limbs, and debris. </li><li>Rake and remove leaves as needed. </li><li>Keep grounds clean, neat, and visually appealing. </li><li>Assist with general gardens/grounds maintenance. </li><li>Safely operate landscaping equipment and tools. </li><li>Follow all safety procedures and report hazards or needed repairs </li><li>Other duties as assigned by the supervisor. </li></ul> <p>Required Qualifications</p> <ul> <li>High School Diploma or GED/AHS equivalent preferred </li><li>Valid NC driver's license </li><li>Pleasant, professional disposition and ability to interact and work with diverse groups of people. </li><li>Ability to perform physically demanding outdoor work in varying weather conditions. </li><li>Experience operating lawn care equipment preferred (mowers, trimmers, blowers, etc.). </li><li>Dependable, punctual, and able to work independently or as part of a team </li></ul> <p>Preferred Qualifications</p> <ul> <li>Previous groundskeeping, landscaping, or facilities experience. </li><li>Basic knowledge of lawn and plant care </li><li>Experience with operating tractors. </li><li>Experience with minor maintenance or repair tasks. </li></ul> <p>Physical Demands</p> <p>Primarily outdoor work in heat, cold, rain, and other weather conditions.</p> <p>Requires standing, walking, bending, lifting, and repetitive physical activity</p> <ul> <li>Walking for 8 hours per day </li><li>Lifting to 50 lbs </li><li>Climbing/stooping frequently </li><li>Stretching/reaching overhead </li><li>Tolerate temperature extremes both indoor and out. </li><li>Physical labor and work outdoors in inclement weather </li></ul> <p>Salary Grade Salary $15 to $20 per hour based on experience</p> <p>Posting Detail Information</p> <p>Posting Number 10500P Open Date 02/27/2026 Close Date Open Until Filled Yes Desired Start Date Review Start Date Special Instructions to Applicants</p> <p>Applicant must complete the Wilkes Community College online application process which includes a cover letter, a resume, and references (including a recent supervisor)</p> <p>The applicant must be able to successfully pass a background check.</p> <p>If you have specific questions related to this position, contact Chris Cox at crcox080@wilkescc.edu, or (336) 838-6213 or 336-977-1222.</p>
