<p>The Blaine Parks and Recreation Department offers year round programs and activities designed to engage and meet the diverse needs of the entire community. Our mission is to enhance the community through recreation, parks, programs and facilities.</p> <p>As a Recreation Programmer, you'll be responsible for the development, planning, coordination and execution of community recreation programs. Your focus will include online registration, special events, athletics, facility rentals, community gardens, and senior activities.</p> <p>This role will require some days, nights and weekends depending on the program.</p> <p>ESSENTIAL DUTIES: (These duties are a representative sample; position assignments may vary.)</p> <ul> <li>Plan, develop, implement, and coordinate a variety of recreational opportunities and events for residents of all ages that meet the community's needs. </li><li>Provide a positive physical presence at activities and events to enhance participant experience and community engagement. </li><li>Develop and implement new program offerings. </li><li>Prepare program budgets; monitor and track revenues and expenses. </li><li>Communicate verbally and in writing with other city departments, vendors, and the public. </li><li>Provide consistent high-quality customer service to residents and participants. </li><li>Create and schedule programs, activities and rentals in the Civic Rec software. </li><li>Write and edit content for Blaine Parks & Recreation brochures, flyers and promotional materials. </li><li>Assist in selection, training, scheduling and supervision of seasonal staff, instructors, and volunteers. </li><li>Serve as an active member of the Parks & Recreation Department. </li><li>Other duties and special projects as appropriate or assigned. </li><li>Recreation planning, development and evaluation. </li><li>Philosophy and objectives of public service, community relations, recreation programming. </li><li>Program development and oversight. </li><li>Computer database and word processing. </li><li>Make sound, rational decisions using judgment and problem-solving skills. </li><li>Establish and maintain a positive and effective working relationship with vendors, the public, volunteers and City staff. </li><li>Work independently with no direct supervision and prioritize work. </li><li>Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with diverse clientele. </li><li>Coordinate various activities. </li></ul> <p>Minimum Qualifications </p> <ul> <li>High school diploma or G.E.D. </li><li>Two years of general recreation programming experience </li><li>Valid, unrestricted driver's license and satisfactory motor vehicle report </li></ul> <p>Preferred Qualifications</p> <p> 1. Two year degree in Recreation Administration, Leisure Studies, Physical Education or related field. </p> <p> 2. Civic Plus programming experience </p> <p> 3. One year local government experience </p> <p> 4. Two years customer service experience</p> <p>Working and Environmental Conditions:</p> <p>Park facility office and grounds, working closely with others and independently. Some time is spent outside in varying weather conditions. </p> <p>Physical Conditions:</p> <p>Essential and other important responsibilities and duties require maintaining physical condition necessary for sitting and standing for prolonged periods of time; general manual dexterity; adequate hearing, vision and speech required; must be able to lift 50 pounds.</p> <p>The City of Blaine encourages qualified applicants of all backgrounds, cultures, races, gender, age and abilities to apply.
