This is a great opportunity for planners with solid experience who want to take the next step toward project management and client-facing work in a collaborative, growth-oriented environment.</p> <p>If you are passionate about shaping communities, adaptable in navigating varying municipal contexts, and ready to take the next step in your planning career, we encourage you to apply.</p> <p>JOB REQUIREMENTS:</p> <ul> <li>Manage current and/or long-range planning projects for city and county clients </li><li>Review and process complex development applications, site plans, and zoning amendments </li><li>Draft and present staff reports before planning commissions and city councils </li><li>Provide technical guidance to junior planners and counter staff </li><li>Collaborate with municipal staff on comprehensive plan updates, code amendments, and policy studies </li><li>Maintain strong relationships with clients, community stakeholders, and inter-departmental teams </li><li>Balance multiple assignments and deadlines in a fast-paced environment with professionalism and independence </li></ul> <p>SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE:</p> <ul> <li>Strong knowledge of planning and zoning principles, with the ability to interpret and apply land use regulations to a wide variety of development scenarios. </li><li>Experience working across a range of community types and scales, with a demonstrated ability to adapt approaches to suit the local context and community goals. </li><li>Proficiency in reviewing and interpreting site plans, plats, floor plans, elevations, and sections, including the use of dimensional and graphic scales. </li><li></li><li>Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to convey technical information clearly to planners, developers, elected officials, and community stakeholders. </li><li>Familiarity with contemporary planning topics such as housing affordability, climate adaptation, equity in land use, and mixed-use and transit-oriented development. </li><li>Skilled in the use of digital tools, including Microsoft Office, Adobe Creative Suite, GIS, desktop plan review platforms, and web-based permitting systems. </li><li>Analytical abilities to apply statistical, geometric, and spatial reasoning to development scenarios and planning analyses. </li><li>Strong organizational skills and attention to detail with the ability to manage deadlines and competing priorities independently. </li><li>Collaborative mindset with a commitment to innovation, customer service, and continuous learning in a changing regulatory environment. </li><li>Proven ability to lead initiatives, suggest process improvements, and help clients navigate complex or politically sensitive planning challenges. </li><li>Business acumen that understands the value proposition of third-party consultation for local governments. </li></ul> <p>EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION/EXPERIENCE:</p> <ul> <li>Bachelor's degree (or higher) in Urban Planning, Architecture, Geography, or a related field </li><li>3-5 years of professional planning experience, preferably within local government or consulting </li><li>Strong analytical, organizational, and project-management skills </li><li>Proven ability to interpret zoning codes, general plans, and site development regulations </li><li>Excellent written and verbal communication skills for reports, presentations, and public meetings </li><li>Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Adobe Suite; experience with GIS, plan-review, or e-permitting software a plus </li><li>A collaborative mindset with an interest in leadership and mentorship </li><li>Proficiency in a second language is a plus </li></ul> <p>COMPENSATION & BENEFITS: SAFEbuilt pays competitive wages and has a comprehensive benefit offering.
