<p>This position is located in the Facilities Management Service (FMS) at the Hudson Valley VA Medical Center in Montrose, New York.</p> <p>Major duties and responsibilities will include:</p> <ul> <li>Performing maintenance and repair of architectural components of buildings; </li><li>Renovating office areas based upon blueprints to include modifications to sheetrock walls, ceilings, and doors; </li><li>Installing, modifying, and repairing furniture items, doors, windows, floor coverings, baseboards, and signage; </li><li>Installing ceramic tile floors and walls; </li><li>Conducting inspections and performing routine maintenance on area of responsibility assigned; </li><li>Constructing/framing metal stud dry wall partitions and drywalling, mudding, taping, and plastering; </li><li>Patching various surfaces; </li><li>Constructing concrete structures (walls, slabs, footers, forms, etc.). </li><li>Planning and measuring various materials according to requirements and dimensions outlined in instructions; </li><li>Reading and interpreting work orders, instructions, sketches, blueprints, building codes, and wiring diagrams; </li><li>Using and maintaining equipment and tools common to various trades; </li><li>Making repairs on and performing preventative maintenance on shop tools and equipment to ensure safe and proper function; </li><li>Working with wood or wood substitute materials, gypsum board or fiber-cement board, concrete/rebar, glass, etc.; </li><li>Overseeing the requisition of materials, tools, and equipment as necessary to perform assigned duties; </li><li>Planning the materials, tools, and techniques needed for completing the work; </li><li>Performing related duties as required. </li></ul> <p>Work Schedule: Full-Time, Monday - Friday; 8:00am - 4:30pm</p> <p>Position Description Title/PD#: Maintenance Mechanic/PD00055A</p> <p>Physical Requirements: The employee works in tiring, uncomfortable and awkward positions for prolonged periods of time. Frequent standing, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching and repetitive arm and wrist movement are required. The incumbent frequently carries, lifts, and handles parts and material weighing up to 50 pounds. Frequently lifts heavier items with assistance.</p>
