Work involves rotating shifts, weekends, and holidays. This position works with minimal supervision and is responsible for dispatching law enforcement officers with the Wyoming Highway Patrol utilizing a two-way radio system and extensive computer operation. Please complete your application today to see if you have what it takes to join our agency and be ready to begin our next training phase beginning on Monday, June 1.</p> <p>Human Resource Contact: Keri Long 307-777-4104Keri.Long@wyo.gov</p> <p>ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The listed functions are illustrative only and are not intended to describe every function that may be performed at the job level.</p> <ul> <li> <p>Dispatches law enforcement and other emergency services personnel to specific locations via telephone and two-way radio network.</p> </li><li> <p>Monitors the status of field units, assigning additional resources as requested or required, and reaches appropriate and independent decisions from detailed and complex information.</p> </li><li> <p>In addition to Wyoming Highway Patrol activities, this position is responsible for dispatching the Game and Fish, Brand Inspectors, Bureau of Land Management, the Wyoming Livestock Board, the Division of Criminal Investigation, State Park Rangers, the U.S. Forest Service, and the Wyoming Outfitter Board.</p> </li><li> <p>An individual in this position must possess advanced knowledge of policy, procedures, and equipment operations and must have the ability to relate this knowledge to dispatchers and others.</p> </li><li> <p>In the absence of a supervisor, this position may provide support and guidance to less-experienced dispatchers.</p> </li><li> <p>Responsibilities may include participating in classroom training, one-on-one training, and in-service training to provide the foundation from which new dispatchers will draw information and build upon it throughout their law enforcement careTheer.</p> </li><li> <p>Must acquire 20 hours of POST-certified training every two years to maintain state-required POST certification.</p> </li><li> <p>The next training cycle will begin Monday, June 1st.</p> </li></ul> <p>Qualifications</p> <p>PREFERENCES:</p> <p>Preference will be given to candidates with two or more years of Wyoming Highway Patrol dispatch experience.</p> <p>Preference will be given to candidates who have approved public safety dispatch certification.</p> <p>Preference will be given to candidates who have good communication and people skills.</p> <p>Preference will be given to candidates who have attention to detail, good memory retention, familiarity with computers, and strong typing ability.</p> <p>KNOWLEDGE:</p> <ul> <li> <p>Knowledge of officer safety procedures and protocol.</p> </li><li> <p>Knowledge of Wyoming's highway system, geography, topography, city, county, and state multi-jurisdictional boundaries, and the computerized mapping system.</p> </li><li> <p>Knowledge of the course of action required for managing hazardous material incidents concerning the response and relay of information for man-made and natural disasters. Interpret information from the Chemical Transportation Center and hazardous material guides.</p> </li></ul> <p>MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:</p> <p>Experience:</p> <p>0-2 years of progressive work experience (typically in Dispatch) with acquired knowledge at the level of a Highway Patrol Dispatcher I</p> <p>Education:</p> <p>Associate's Degree</p> <p>OR</p> <p>Education & Experience Substitution:</p> <p>2-4 years of progressive work experience (typically in Dispatch) with acquired knowledge at the level of a Highway Patrol Dispatcher I</p> <p>Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:</p> <p>None</p> <p>Necessary Special Requirements</p> <p>PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:</p> <ul> <li> <p>Applicants must be able to work shifts, holidays, and weekends.</p> </li><li> <p>Applicants must be physically able to hear and record messages transmitted over radio, telephone, or similar devices.</p> </li></ul> <p>NOTES:</p> <ul> <li> <p>FLSA: Non-Exempt</p> </li><li> <p>WHP Communications will be reviewing applications needed to fill positions during the duration of the job posting.
