<p>Stewards VISTA: Ohio's Hill Country Heritage Area Y1</p> <p>This project, based in Appalachian Ohio, will serve low-income communities, unemployed individuals, low-income adults, low-income youth, and individuals and families experiencing homelessness. Ohio's Hill Country Heritage Area and the Ohio Winding Road project support communities in cultivating assets that bring people to the region to celebrate and experience authentic and sustainable tourism. Bike trails, streams and water trails, abundant hiking and exploration, a rich history of agriculture, mining and the labor movement, and vibrant local food systems are all resources that can strengthen regional identity and economic opportunity. The people of our region know our environment and have inherited rich stories and culture. This project will mobilize a VISTA to help organize community stakeholders and develop systems that build awareness of how these assets can be stewarded and sustained for long-term economic benefit. The VISTA will strengthen communication, coordination, and resource-sharing structures that help communities plan for tourism-based economic development benefiting current and future generations. Further help on this page can be found by clicking here.</p> <p>Member Duties : In year one, the VISTA will focus on developing communications, documentation, and outreach systems for two heritage-based tourism initiatives in Appalachian Ohio: Trail Towns and Destination Communities. The member will collaborate with Trail Town coordinators and Destination Community partners to assess the impact of collaborative meetups and Trail Town initiatives, identifying successes and areas for improvement. The VISTA will document organizing processes, create tools for volunteer recruitment and engagement, develop stakeholder communications, and produce materials that share the story of heritage and resource-based tourism.
