Summer school is in session 6/01/2026-6/25/2026, Monday through Thursday.</p> <p>Staff Hours</p> <p>8:45 am - 1:15 pm</p> <p>Hourly rate of pay</p> <p>$52.75/hr - Summer School Teaching</p> <p>$42.35 - Mandatory Training on May 29, 2026</p> <p>Special requirements</p> <ul> <li>Please note that only candidates who are available to work the entire program will be considered. </li></ul> <p>Licensure, certification, and other requirements</p> <ul> <li>Illinois Professional Educator License with HS endorsements registered in Lake County </li><li>ESL endorsement or approval; bilingual endorsement or approval preferred </li></ul> <p>Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities</p> <ul> <li>Considerable knowledge about language development, communication theory, and first and second language acquisition, including literacy development. </li><li>ESL and bilingual education principles, including content instruction through English and/or a non-English language and cross-linguistic connections. </li><li>Structure of English and, when applicable, the partner language. </li><li>Cultural, social, political, and cognitive factors influencing language learning and student achievement. </li><li>Curriculum standards (including Illinois Learning Standards), assessment mandates, program models, and policies for ENL learners. </li><li>The relationship between bilingual proficiency, academic success, and life/career readiness. </li><li>Ability to understand the impact of disabilities, prior experiences, and diversity on learning for students from culturally diverse backgrounds. </li><li>Design inclusive, culturally responsive instruction aligned with standards, learning theory, and students' linguistic and cultural assets. </li><li>Develop and adjust short- and long-range plans based on assessment data, language proficiency, and learner needs. </li><li>Use varied instructional strategies, materials, technology, and assessments to support content and language development in one or more languages. </li><li>Promote literacy, critical thinking, and knowledge construction across disciplines. </li><li>Apply students' native language strategically to advance learning (bilingual settings). </li><li>Maintain professional standards, provide leadership, and collaborate effectively with diverse students, families, and colleagues. </li></ul> <p>Essential Functions</p> <p>The following identifies the primary and essential functions of the position and is not intended to be an exhaustive listing of all duties.</p> <ul> <li>Design and deliver culturally responsive, standards-based instruction integrating content learning, English proficiency, and bilingual development. </li><li>Create meaningful learning experiences that promote critical thinking, collaboration, cross-language transfer, and real-world application. </li><li>Establish high expectations and support students' adaptation while affirming their cultural identities. </li><li>Evaluate and select inclusive, accurate, and appropriate instructional materials and resources. </li><li>Use formal and informal assessments to monitor progress, diagnose needs, and guide instruction. </li><li>Adapt teaching based on students' language proficiency, prior knowledge, educational background, and exceptional needs. </li><li>Ensure proper identification, placement, and equitable services for ENL learners. </li><li>Build inclusive classroom communities that foster respect, motivation, collaboration, and shared responsibility. </li><li>Promote effective written, verbal, and visual communication in English and, when applicable, a partner language. </li><li>Use varied strategies to make content comprehensible, lower anxiety, and facilitate discussion. </li><li>Mediate cross-cultural conflict and model culturally responsive communication. </li><li>Foster strong home-school partnerships and empower families to advocate for their children. </li><li>Communicate educational goals and student progress clearly to stakeholders. </li><li>Collaborate with professionals, agencies, and community organizations to support ENL learners. </li><li>Provide leadership and advocacy to improve programs, policies, and practices for ENL students. </li><li>Engage in ongoing professional learning and contribute to the advancement of ENL education. </li></ul>
