Through individualized accommodations, consultation, and advocacy, OAS supports students in pursuing their academic and personal goals while fostering a campus culture that values accessibility and inclusion.</p> <p>OAS serves as a campus resource and guide for creating an environment where all students can fully engage, learn, and succeed.</p> <p>Position Profile</p> <p>The successful candidate will support the Office of Accessibility Services in promoting access, equity, and inclusion across the university community. The ASL Interpreter provides interpreting and transliterating services to ensure effective communication for Deaf and hard-of-hearing individuals, including students, faculty, staff, parents, and visitors, in academic, professional, and campus settings.</p> <p>This position facilitates full participation in university life by accurately conveying spoken and signed communication in a culturally and linguistically appropriate manner. The ASL Interpreter will collaborate with the Director of Accessibility Services to coordinate, develop, and monitor services and programs that advance accessibility and equal access across CCSU. The successful candidate will demonstrate strong interpersonal and communication skills, adaptability across varied interpreting situations, and a commitment to continuous professional growth. They will maintain required certifications, engage in ongoing professional development, and serve as a campus resource for accessibility and Deaf culture awareness.</p> <p>Knowledge, Skills and Abilities</p> <p>Knowledge of and ability to apply federal and state laws and regulations as well as university and BOR/CSCU policies and procedures. Knowledge of and ability to apply best practices of designated unit and program. Ability to collect, analyze, and prepare data. Ability to convene and collaborate with campus offices/departments, students, and community resources. Ability to handle complex tasks, meet deadlines, and prepare reports. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Ability to use academic technologies, equipment, platforms, and software.</p> <p>Applicant Evaluative Criteria</p> <p>Applicant profiles and supplementary materials will be evaluated for appointment based on the following:</p> <p>Education:</p> <p>All applicants must possess Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of experience and training.</p> <p>Experience and Training:</p> <p>Three (3) years of experience interpreting (in a university setting preferred but not required).</p> <p>Must possess at least ONE of the following credentials or equivalent:</p> <ul> <li>Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID) Certification: </li><li>Certificate of Interpreting (CI), or </li><li>National Interpreter Certification (NIC), or </li><li>Comprehensive Skills Certificate (CSC) </li></ul> <p>OR</p> <ul> <li>National Association of the Deaf (NAD) Interpreter Certification Program: </li><li>Certificate of Competence Level IV (Advanced), or </li><li>Certificate of Competence Level V (Master) </li></ul> <p>Credentials and experience substantially comparable to the above may also be considered.</p> <p>To Apply</p> <p>To begin the application process, select the "Apply" button and electronically submit the following documents by January 29, 2026.</p> <ul> <li>Letter of interest addressing the qualifications for this position. </li><li>Current Résumé </li><li>Names of three current professional references with title, email addresses and telephone numbers. </li></ul> <p>Incomplete or late applications will not be considered.
