The District has one early learning center, 15 elementary schools, five middle schools and a high school program divided between two 9 12th grade campuses. The District encompasses portions of Waukegan, Beach Park and Park City.</p> <p>Why We Do This Work:</p> <p>The Waukegan Community Unit School District No. 60 has set an ambitious agenda for change, guided by the belief that all children, regardless of circumstances, can achieve at high levels and academic gaps can and will be eliminated with the support of teachers who deliver engaging, relevant, and academically rigorous instruction that excites students and instills a love of learning in them.</p> <p>PURPOSE: Coordinate and manage the athletic-related functions for the Waukegan Public Schools, to include all 15 elementary schools and 5 middle school buildings, including planning, organizing, and managing the game supervisors and coaches within the K-8 sports program.</p> <p>ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS</p> <ul> <li>Develop and implement specific athletic programs; direct and coordinate a full range of athletic department services and programs. </li><li>Ensure compliance with district regulations and guidelines. </li><li>Book additional out of district games for middle school sports programs. </li><li>Provide coaches orientation, and athletics training programs. </li><li>Supervise utilization of the athletic facilities; coordinate athletic uses of training and weight room facilities; recommend and review policies for student and community use of facilities at WPS; review and recommend changes, repairs and improvement of athletic equipment and facilities. </li><li>Arrange for athletic events (game management). </li><li>Oversee the production of the athletic handbook, bulletins, and other publications. Coordinate master athletic calendars. </li><li>Assist in the design and development of the K-8 sports website. Maintain website and review data entered by coaching staff to ensure current and accurate information is posted. </li><li>Monitor eligibility between the Dean of Students, building sports leaders, athletes, and coaches for all athletic programs. Review necessary eligibility forms. Assist the coaches and athletes with regards to compliance of WPS codes regarding roster, eligibility, pictures, etc. </li><li>Distribute WPS calendar of due dates to all athletic coaching staff. Monitor due dates and send reminders to all coaching staff. Follow up to assure all due dates have been met. </li><li>Oversee the coordination of transportation at all middle schools sporting events. </li><li>Develop and provide a variety of student services and programs such as student athletic recruitment and retention, academic tracking and athletic eligibility, health and safety. </li><li>Assist building sports leaders with hiring of staff; forward recommendations of hire to the Athletic Director and Human Resources. </li><li>Make recommendations in matters of student athlete discipline; advise students in eligibility and academic issues. </li><li>Serve as liaison with community, state and conference organizations related to athletics. Maintain work areas in a clean and orderly manner. </li></ul> <p>QUALIFICATIONS</p> <ul> <li>MANDATORY: Bachelor's degree required in related field. </li><li>5 Years of Administrative Leadership Experience in running multi building athletic programs: </li><li>current practices in the delivery of athletic programs; student athletic issues; supervision techniques; administrative budgeting and financial recordkeeping and control procedures; WPS rules and practices; sport procedures and practices </li><li>Must have the ability to: integrate multiple activities and programs around the goals of the athletic programs; </li><li>participate with other school district personnel in developing and coordinating activities, goals, and services; </li><li>develop and provide athletic services to meet the needs of a wide variety of student athletes; </li><li>supervise and train students and staff in a variety of labor intensive activities; </li><li>communicate effectively orally and in writing; </li><li>establish cooperative working relationships during performing assigned duties. </li></ul> <p>SPECIAL LICENSE/CERTIFICATE: Valid driver's license.</p> <p>SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY</p> <p>Supervise game supervisors, head coaches, assistant coaches, and student employees.</p> <p>Carries out other supervisory responsibilities in accordance with WPS policies and applicable laws.
