<p>Performs advanced level administrative duties for the Mayor of Lubbock and acts as a liaison between the Mayor and the citizens, as well as a liaison between the Mayor and the departments within the city organization. Responsibilities include public relations, communication, scheduling, and general support. Along with assisting the Mayor, this position works heavily with and for the entire City Council and City Management team, working on various projects, initiatives, and day-to-day office tasks. This position is privy to sensitive and sometimes confidential information, so discretion is required. The incumbent will conduct research, oversee initiatives, and communicate on behalf of the Mayor with the public, City departments, other agencies, and various government officials. The mayor will sometimes look to this individual for advice and support.</p> <ul> <li>Works directly with the Mayor, department heads, and city staff on sensitive constituent issues, and assist in problem solving; </li><li>Assists the Mayor with public relations, citizen inquiries, and routine matters using judgement and discretion; </li><li>Attends functions and public outings as support staff for the Mayor; </li><li>Generates social media content and manages the Mayor of Lubbock's social media accounts; </li><li>Provides an optimum level of administrative support: schedules appointments, maintains Mayor's calendar, composes and drafts letters, remarks, reports, memos, notes, and spreadsheets; </li><li>Researches, communicates, and coordinates directly with the Mayor on issues, inquiries, special projects, and other assignments related to the Mayor's priorities; </li><li>Supports other Council Office activities: prepares special recognitions, proclamations, correspondence, reports, memoranda, and directives on behalf of City Council; </li><li>Answers inquiries from the public and addresses citizen needs while working within City policies and procedures; Provides information and guidance on city policies, functions and procedures to citizens and other individuals; </li><li>Organizes and oversees meetings, conferences, and special events involving the Mayor and City Council, including accompanying the Mayor at public outings to assist with their public service mission; </li><li>Provides assistance at meetings (takes notes and follows up on required action) and responds to needs or requests; </li><li>Plans, organizes, and supervises assigned projects while ensuring the Mayor is kept fully informed on all matters; coordinates special projects that cross divisions/departments; </li><li>Assists with duties and responsibilities of the supervisor, Chief of Staff, and City Management when needed; </li><li>Strive to anticipate the Mayor's needs and work well alongside the Mayor; </li><li>Performs related duties as assigned. </li><li>Bachelor's Degree or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job; </li><li>Relevant work experience is preferred; </li><li>Demonstrated knowledge of writing and strong research skills, internet and social media fluency; </li><li>Valid Texas Driver's License. </li></ul> <p>Attaching a resume and cover letter is strongly preferred. KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:</p> <ul> <li>Substantial knowledge of policies, procedures, and practices of a municipal government, including Open Meetings Act, Public Information Act and Robert's Rules of Order; Administrative research methods; </li><li>Ability to work well with others and to assist others cooperatively and courteously in a collaborative environment; </li><li>Working ability to prioritize assignment and organizational skills; </li><li>Excellent written and oral communication skills; </li><li>Extensive knowledge of and ability to operate standard office equipment; </li><li>Detail oriented. and able to multi-task in sometimes high stress environment. </li></ul> <p>Physical Requirements:</p> <ul> <li>Occasionally walk and bend during the shift; </li><li>Occasionally lift and carry up to 10 pounds; </li><li>Ability to place arms above, at and below shoulder height. </li></ul>
