<p>This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) & eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the EDRP application. Former EDRP participants ineligible to apply.</p> <p>The VA Boston Healthcare System seeks a dynamic leader to organize and direct the Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation service (PM&RS) of this multi-campus institution including a CARF accredited inpatient rehabilitation program, the Amputee Systems of Care Specialty and Polytrauma System of Care programs for New England. VA Boston is an academic medical center affiliated with Harvard Medical School, Boston University Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine, and Tufts University School of Medicine.</p> <p>PM&RS offers a comprehensive approach to rehabilitation across the continuum of inpatient and outpatient care. In addition to running extensive outpatient clinics and an inpatient unit, PM&RS provides support to patients with neurological disorders, traumatic and non-traumatic brain injury, spinal cord injury and dysfunction, and orthopedic disorders. The program is fully staffed at over 90 full and part time staff, comprising staff physiatrists, physical therapy, occupational therapy, kinesiotherapist, massage therapist, chiropractors and a PMR residency training program affiliated with Tufts University School of Medicine. Training experiences are also available for medical, PA, chiro students and fellows in PT, OT programs. The development and /or participation in a research program funded by the VA and/or NIH is strongly encouraged.</p> <p>The Chief of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation reports to the Deputy Chief of Staff at VABHS. The Department Chief will be expected to expand clinical programs, foster collaborative research efforts between departments and faculty, and explore opportunities within VA and with academic partners in Boston to serve and improve rehabilitation care for the regions Veterans. Faculty appointments at Harvard Medical School, Boston University Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine, or Tufts University School of Medicine will be commensurate with experience.</p> <p>Duties also include but not limited to:</p> <p>Serves as the lead physician providing expert level clinical care in Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation Service specific evaluations, diagnoses and treatment including using telehealth modalities. Utilize effective communication skills at all levels to enhance team functioning, patient care coordination, and leadership. Provides consultation to professional staff within a cooperative structure with other service lines to improve processes to meet performance measure goals and improve utilization management. Liaisons with other inpatient, outpatient rehabilitation care programs, Spinal Cord Injury, and Disorders, Audiology and Speech, if necessary, to effectively coordinate service, staffing needs or patient care. Conducts peer reviews as part of the physician practice evaluation program (OPPE/FPPE), as well as for quality improvement and resource utilization purposes on an ongoing basis. Oversee the establishment of program monitors, outcomes measurements, and performance measures within Amputation System of Care (ASoC) , Polytrauma System of Care (PSC), and Comprehensive Integrated Inpatient Rehabilitation Program (CIIRP) and develop processes to ensure completion of those measures and programs accreditations. Strives to meet the needs of internal and external customers while supporting VA missions. The incumbent has skills in internal personal relationships to effectively resolve conflicts and work collaboratively in an interdisciplinary environment. Attends and participates in administrative and informational meetings held by the Executive Director, Chief of Service, or designee.</p> <p>VA offers a comprehensive total rewards package.
