<p>We are currently recruiting for a FULL TIME Hygienist to work in both our Torrington and Winsted locations. Flexibility to work 4 ten hour days or 5 eight hour days.</p> <p>Summary: Under the supervision of the dentist, the dental hygienist is responsible for treating and educating patients in a safe and professional manner in order to prevent and manage oral diseases.</p> <p>Minimum Job Requirement</p> <ul> <li>Current licensure as a dental hygienist in the state of Connecticut. </li><li>Current CPR certification. </li><li>Current certificate to administer local anesthesia. </li><li>Complies with CHWC attendance policy. </li></ul> <p>To perform this job successfully an individual must be able to perform each of the listed duties satisfactorily and have the knowledge and skillset detailed below.</p> <p>Duties and Responsibilities</p> <ul> <li>Provides direct patient care by preforming periodontal and oral cancer examinations, prophylaxis, periodontal scaling and root planning, sealants, applying fluoride and varnish treatments, and taking radiographs. </li><li>Documents accurate and updated medical history, dental history of chief complaint, dental charting, periodontal charting, and pertinent observations. </li><li>Uses appropriate procedural codingSchedules patients and assures a minimum of time lost. </li><li>Complies with "Universal Precautions" for infection control. </li><li>Maintains and fully understands the importance of patient confidentiality, and HIPAA </li><li>Compliance. </li><li>Follows Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and Centers for </li><li>Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) requirements. </li><li>Assists with or institutes emergency measures for sudden adverse developments during treatment of patients. </li><li>Assumes responsibility for the upkeep of the dental operatory and equipment. Routinely clean and stock operatory. </li><li>Performs routine cleaning and maintenance of dental equipment in assigned operatories and for the assigned equipment. Regularly and thoroughly performs maintenance of assigned equipment. </li><li>Attend and participates in staff meetings. </li><li>Functions in a safe and professional manner. </li><li>Provides chair-side assistance to the dentist as needed. </li><li>Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned. </li></ul> <p>Knowledge, Skills and Technical Ability</p> <p>Knowledge of dental hygiene procedures, techniques and tools.</p> <ul> <li>Ability to perform the full range of dental hygiene procedures, which includes being able to sit for long periods of time providing periodontal treatment, handle small sharp instruments, operate a keyboard, speak, hear, and write. </li><li>Ability to independently assess periodontal and caries risk assessments, and associated conditions and pathology in dental patients. </li><li>Knowledge of federal, state, an institutional regulations and guidelines for the provision of dental outpatient services. </li><li>Ability to set up and prepare dental equipment and instrumentation in accordance with established regulation and guidelines. </li><li>Manage the dental office infection control plan to meet OSHA, CDC, and American Dental Association (ADA) standards. </li></ul> <p>Working Conditions and Physical Effort</p> <ul> <li>Exposure to blood or blood-borne pathogens which require OSHA training. </li><li>Exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, unpleasant odors, and or loud noises. </li><li>Potential exposure to infectious waste, blood, body fluids, air contaminants, hazardous chemicals, and communicable/infectious diseases, such as Hepatitis B. </li><li>Potential exposure to dangerous materials and situations that require following extensive safety precautions and may include the use of protective equipment. </li><li>Require moderate physical activity and handling average-weight objects up to 15-20 pounds. </li><li>Require standing or sitting for prolonged periods of time. </li></ul> <p>Behavioral</p> <ul> <li>Responds constructively to pressure situations and time limits. </li><li>Able to accept constructive criticism and instruction while maintaining a positive attitude towards managers, programs and job responsibilities. </li><li>Works independently with minimum amount of supervision. Sick time is used at appropriate times. </li><li>Acts as a role model - willing to accept or volunteer on projects as opportunity arises. Exhibits loyalty to the organization and does not bring personal problems to work. </li></ul>
