<p>JOB SUMMARY</p> <p>This position assists in the installation, maintenance and repair of campus-wide buildings and facilities; assists in performing general carpentry, repairs, maintenance or construction work; assists skilled technicians in performing minor repairs of plumbing, electrical and mechanical systems to maintain campus facilities; independently performs maintenance tasks requiring a limited degree of professional skill; and performs related work as required. This class works within a general outline of work to be performed and develops work methods and sequences under general supervision.</p> <p>ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:</p> <ul> <li>Assists skilled technicians in performing maintenance and repair tasks such as carpentry, locksmith, electricity, heating, plumbing, venting and air conditioning (HVAC). </li><li>Assists with hanging sheetrock, laying tile, carpet, linoleum, etc., as needed. </li><li>Cleans and maintains tools and equipment. </li><li>Loads and unloads equipment and supplies. </li><li>Troubleshoots and diagnoses routine equipment and system problems; schedules and performs routine repair work or parts replacement. </li><li>Paints walls and other surfaces as needed. </li><li>Moves furniture and other heavy items as requested. </li><li>Maintains accurate records on maintenance/repair work completed. </li><li>Performs other related duties as assigned. </li></ul> <p>MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS TO PERFORM WORK:</p> <ul> <li>High school diploma or GED. </li><li>One (1) year of experience in repairs and maintenance. </li></ul> <p>KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:</p> <ul> <li>Knowledge of how to properly perform manual tasks. </li><li>Knowledge of safety practices relevant to the tasks performed and equipment employed. </li><li>Skill in the use of various trade tools and equipment. </li><li>Ability to understand and follow instructions. </li><li>Ability to perform heavy manual labor. </li><li>Ability to perform arithmetic. </li><li>Ability to communicate effectively. </li><li>Knowledge of safety practices relevant to the area of employment. </li><li>Knowledge of the concepts and techniques of on-the-job training. </li><li>Ability to organize, plan and prioritize work. </li></ul> <p>PHYSICAL DEMANDS:</p> <p>Requires medium-to-heavy work that involves walking, standing, stooping, lifting, digging, pushing or raising objects and also involves exerting between 20 and 50 pounds of force on a recurring basis and 50 to 100 pounds of force on an occasional basis. May be required to use a ladder or scaffolding. May be required to occasionally work in small, hard to reach spaces. Work is performed both inside a facility and outdoors in all weather conditions.
