<p>Job Description:</p> <p>Special Education Transition Coordinator</p> <p>Position Title: Special Education Transition Coordinator</p> <p>(ONE YEAR GRANT FUNDED POSITION)</p> <p>Location: Watertown Transition Academy (with some travel to Watertown High</p> <p>School and Swift Middle School)</p> <p>Position Reports To: Interim Director of Special Education and Pupil Personnel Services</p> <p>Job ID: #2350</p> <p>Internal Close Date: July 24, 2025</p> <p>External Close Date: August 14, 2025</p> <p>Anticipated Start Date: Immediately and through June 30, 2026 (Anticipated)</p> <p>Required Certifications & Qualifications</p> <p>Current State of Connecticut Teaching Certificate #092, #065, #165 or #265</p> <p>Required Qualifications</p> <ul> <li>Hold a valid Connecticut 092 Administrative Certificate. </li><li>Hold a valid Connecticut Special Education Teaching Certificate. </li><li>Demonstrated experience working within special education settings, transition or secondary education preferred. </li><li>Strong understanding of the IEP process, transition planning, and IDEA compliance. </li><li>Excellent communication, organizational, and leadership skills. </li><li>Ability to work collaboratively with faculty, families, service providers, and administrators. </li><li>Experience with program auditing and improvement planning preferred. </li></ul> <p>Position Summary</p> <p>The Watertown Public Schools is accepting applications for a full-time Special Education Transition Coordinator. This grant-funded position is a one-year opportunity, with the potential for continued funding. The Transition Coordinator will be responsible for evaluating, improving, and overseeing all transition programming for special education students across the district - from middle school through age 22.</p> <p>This position will be based at the Watertown Transition Academy (WTA) located at the Siemon Company in Watertown, but requires travel between Swift Middle School and Watertown High School. In addition to overseeing district wide transition programming, the Coordinator will manage all aspects of WTA operations, including programming, assessments, placement coordination, and community outreach. A key responsibility is to grow the WTA by recruiting tuition-paying students from surrounding districts.</p> <p>Essential Duties and Responsibilities</p> <ul> <li>Oversee all district transition programming from grades 6 through post-secondary (age 22). </li><li>Evaluate and audit current transition services, assessments, and procedures; lead the development and implementation of improved practices. </li><li>Supervise and manage the daily operations of the Watertown Transition Academy (WTA). </li><li>Facilitate and chair all Planning and Placement Team (PPT) meetings related to WTA students. </li><li>Collaborate with special education teachers, related service providers, school counselors, administrators, and principals to implement transition procedures at both middle and high school levels. </li><li>Coordinate outreach to families with a focus on education, support, and connection to appropriate transition services and programs. </li><li>Develop and distribute transition planning resources and materials for students and families. </li><li>Recruit and onboard out-of-district (tuition-paying) students to help grow the WTA program. </li><li>Maintain compliance with all special education laws, policies, and procedures (IDEA, ADA, etc.). </li><li>Serve as a liaison between the district and adult service agencies. </li><li>Perform additional responsibilities as assigned by the Director of Pupil Personnel Services. </li></ul> <p>Additional Duties</p> <ul> <li>This position reports to the Director of Special Education and Pupil Personnel Services </li><li>Perform all other duties that may be assigned by the Director of Special Education and Pupil Personnel Services and/or the Building Administrator </li></ul> <p>Terms of Employment</p> <ul> <li>FLSA STATUS: Grant-Funded, 1-Year Position (with potential for continuation) </li><li>COMPENSATION: Commensurate with the collective bargaining agreement between the Watertown Board of Education and the Watertown Administrators Association </li></ul>
