<p>Title: Coordinator of Academic Advising, Instructor</p> <p>Department: Burton Center for Student Success</p> <p>Category: Faculty/Exempt</p> <p>Summary/Objective</p> <p>This 12 month faculty position with administrative duties consists of the coordination of academic advising for first and second year students and instruction in the First Year Seminar and in general education.</p> <p>Essential Functions</p> <ol> <li>Advising Responsibilities </li></ol> <ul> <li>Lead the Burton Center for Student Success (BCSS) team in welcoming First-Year students, building course schedules, and participating in Admissions-hosted events such as: New Student Orientation, Move-In, Open House, etc. </li><li>Coordinate proactive advising services for all students, assisting program coordinators in updating advisors for each academic area </li><li>Providing proactive academic coaching for advisees experiencing difficulty with coursework or generalized life challenges that might interrupt degree completion and refer to helpful support services </li><li>Provide professional development for faculty who are serving as major advisors and for BCSS faculty who are First Year advisors </li><li>Maintain a caseload of First-Year advisees and Second-Year students and conduct regular meetings with advisees to track progress, coach through difficulties, and identify available supportive resources </li><li>Advise students regarding paths toward Major Declaration </li><li>Assist students in General Education course scheduling and registration </li><li>Coordinate with Admissions to review transcript submissions and document transfer credit based on transcript review </li><li>Effectively communicate institutional standards for Satisfactory Academic Progress </li><li>Assist in the production of an annual report and improvement plan for the Academic Advising Center within BCSS </li></ul> <ol start="2"> <li>Teaching </li></ol> <ul> <li>Teach courses within the First Year Seminar in the Fall semester </li><li>Teach within General Education or a Content area in the Spring (dependent upon degree and experience) </li><li>Support the First-Year Experience Student Learning Outcome of "Developing Personal Accountability" </li><li>Participate in annual program and course assessment following LMC assessment procedures </li><li>Adhere to the responsibilities and expectations of the LMC Faculty and Employee Handbooks </li></ul> <ol start="3"> <li>General </li></ol> <ul> <li>Support the general functions of the Burton Center including tutoring, testing, and accessibility services. </li><li>Working with the Director of Career Services to integrate career-ready learning outcomes into course learning outcomes </li></ul> <p>Competencies</p> <ul> <li>Ethical Conduct. </li><li>Stress Management/Composure. </li><li>Teamwork Orientation. </li><li>Thoroughness. </li></ul> <p>Supervisory Responsibility</p> <p>This position has no supervisory responsibilities.</p> <p>Work Environment</p> <p>Normal office environment where there is no physical discomfort due to temperature, dust, noise and the like.</p> <p>Physical Demands</p> <p>The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.</p> <p>The employee is occasionally required to sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must frequently lift or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.</p> <p>Position Type/Expected Hours of Work</p> <p>This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5 p.m.</p> <p>Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.</p> <p>Travel</p> <p>No travel is expected for this position.</p> <p>Required Qualifications</p> <p>Required Education and Experience</p> <ul> <li>A Master's degree in Education, Psychology, English, or a related field. </li><li>Two years' experience providing classroom instruction and academic advising/academic coaching services at the college-level </li></ul> <p>Preferred Qualifications</p> <p>Preferred Education and Experience</p> <ul> <li>Five years' experience providing instruction and academic advising/academic coaching services at the college-level </li></ul> <p>Additional Eligibility Qualifications</p> <p>Please note this job description is not designed to cover or contain a comprehensive listing of activities, duties or responsibilities that are required of the employee for this job.
