<p>The Connecticut Children's Security Officer is responsible for assisting in the coordination of activities for the day-to-day security operations at all Connecticut Children's Medical Center affiliated locations as designated by the Security Manager, including but not limited to: the main hospital campus located at 282 Washington Street, Primary Care Facility, Connecticut Children's Medical Center School, as well as other off-site locations. Work with other Security Officers as a team providing prompt response to calls for security assistance. The Security Officer will take a proactive role in addressing any situation related to the safety and security of patients, students, staff and visitors while making appropriate notifications to the Security Manager, Executive Management Team personnel and local law enforcement. Ensures a high quality of service is provided by the Security department, responds to and provides guidance to other security personnel, hospital/school staff and visitors during emergency situations. Assists with patient watches and restraints; ensures that all aspects of security activities within the institution are adhered to. Ensures that the safety and security of patients, students, staff, visitors and property are maintained through the vigilant adherence to policies and controls in a calm and professional manner.</p> <ul> <li>Assists in the coordination of activities for the day-to-day security operations. </li><li>Works with other Security Officers in a professional and cooperative manner for prompt response to calls for security. </li><li>Assists with requests for security, safety and related services from staff, students, patients and visitors. </li><li>Ensures a high quality of service is provided by the Security department while responding to and providing guidance during emergency situations to other personnel, patients, staff and visitors. </li><li>Assists with the patient watches and restraints; ensures that all aspects of security activities within the institution are adhered to. Ensures that the safety of patients, students, staff, visitors and property through vigilant adherence to policy and controls. </li><li>Gathers data, compiles information and prepares reports related to security activities and other situations that may arise while ascertaining facts through personal contact and observations and to determine proper course of action. </li><li>Provides a safe environment by conducting, assisting and monitoring the use of a metal detecting wand, property searches and patient restraints. </li><li>Fosters a cooperative and positive work environment and works with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community. </li><li>Demonstrates support for the mission, values and goals of the organization through behaviors that are consistent with the Connecticut Children's Medical Center STANDARDS. </li></ul> <p>Position Specific Role Responsibilities:</p> <ul> <li>As designated by Security Team Lead, Security Manager or Director of Safety & Security </li></ul> <p>Education and/or Experience Required:</p> <ul> <li>Education Required: High school diploma required or equivalent. </li><li>Education Preferred: Criminal Justice or Emergency Management education preferred. </li><li>Experience Required: Three to five years of operational security experience in health care security or a combination of health care security and law enforcement. </li></ul> <p>License and/or Certification Required:</p> <ul> <li>Valid driver's license and clean driving record </li><li>Valid State of CT Guard Card upon hiring </li><li>Nonviolent Crisis Intervention Training certification to be obtained within the first 3 months of </li></ul> <p>employment and maintained thereafter.</p> <ul> <li>CPR certification required upon hire or to be obtained within 3 months of hire. </li></ul> <p>Position Specific Job License and/or Certification Required:</p> <ul> <li>Valid driver's license and CT State Guard Certification preferred upon hire. </li></ul> <p>Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:</p> <p>Knowledge of:</p> <ul> <li>Knowledge of hospital/department emergency procedures for fire, safety, disaster, electrical safety, infection control and hazardous/toxic materials helpful; organization policies and procedures; security management. </li></ul> <p>Skills:</p> <ul> <li>Verbal and written communication skills. </li><li>Problem solving skills </li><li>In Observing situations and decision making. </li><li>In dealing courteously with public. </li><li>Excellent interpersonal skills and strong verbal and written communications skills and telephone etiquette </li><li>Strong customer service orientation </li><li>Writing & Oral Communication skills </li></ul> <p>Ability to:</p> <ul> <li>Communicate in a courteous and professional manner to the medical community and hospital staff. </li><li>Identify, analyze and solve problems </li><li>Gather data, compile information and prepare reports </li><li>Ascertain facts through personal contact and observations and to determine proper course of action </li><li>Foster a cooperative work environment and work with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community </li><li>Clinical environment with normal noise level. </li></ul>
