<p>Job Posting:</p> <p>JR101712 Assistant or Associate Director Law Career Development (Open)</p> <p>Department:</p> <p>UBalt Law Placement, PM</p> <p>Position Type:</p> <p>Regular</p> <p>Open Date:</p> <p>03-09-2026</p> <p>Close Date:</p> <p>Assistant Director: $65,000 - $80,000; Associate Director: $75,000 - $90,000</p> <p>Job Description:</p> <p>The incumbent works as part of the Law Career Development Office (LCDO) team to counsel and coach students and alumni in career planning, with a particular emphasis on the private sector. Provide programs relating to professional and talent development, job search strategies, resume preparation, interviewing skills, and networking in the diverse legal market and other professional career paths. Create and present career services (career education and career strategy programs) panels and workshops, as well as manage LCDO external communications and publications.</p> <p>The department is hiring at either the assistant or associate director level, depending on the level of oversight the incumbent will need. The position will primarily be on-campus with some remote work possible.</p> <p>Responsibilities:</p> <p>Student support:</p> <p>(1) Respond to employer and student inquiries. Counsel J.D. students, LL.M. students, and alumni on a daily basis in all practice areas, with an emphasis on private sector. Acquire expertise in private sector and federal government opportunities; share expertise with colleagues, students, and alumni.</p> <p>(2) Review resumes, cover letters, conduct mock interviews, and counsel on job search strategies including networking. Work with students on professional development including interviewing skills, work habits, appearance, judgment, etc.</p> <p>(3) Ensure submission of top-quality application materials to private practice recruiting programs including OCI, resume collects, and direct application. Assist other LCDO Assistant/Associate Directors to review personal statements, and promote pipeline programs and opportunities.</p> <p>(4) Monitor private practice and JDA legal job market, communicate trends, data, and best practices to students, graduates, and law school faculty and staff. Monitor status of return of federal government opportunities.</p> <p>Programming:</p> <p>(1) Working with LCDO Asst. Dean, the External Relations team and other colleagues,, create and present career services (career education and career strategy) programs, panels, and workshops, including job search strategy training and career development programs for students and/or recent graduates each semester on topics such as job search strategies, networking, creating effective resumes and cover letters, etc.</p> <p>(2) Working with External Relations, plan and implement practice interview programming and other mentorship programming with alumni.</p> <p>(3) Coordinate evening career education and networking events.</p> <p>(4) Manage oversight of fall and spring recruitment programs including promoting employer participation and ensuring students understand how these programs work, how to pursue similar direct application opportunities, and how to submit top-notch application materials.</p> <p>(5) Facilitate utilization of student resources (i.e. Practice Area Quick Guides & materials on networking, informational interviewing, application materials, etc.). Revise resources to keep current with market trends and conditions.</p> <p>(6) Coordinate and promote law firm visits and firm-promoted networking and career development panels and trainings.</p> <p>Communications:</p> <p>(1) Work closely with External Relations team to develop LCDO's external communications, including drafting content for social media, newsletters, web content, etc. Collaborate with other law school offices and programs to deliver consistent, cohesive messaging regarding career development for students, faculty, staff, alumni and community partners.</p> <p>(2) Develop a communications strategy for increasing student engagement with LCDO including content for glass wall, digital board outside café, UB Law Connect home page, and Weekly Record.</p> <p>Employer Relations:</p> <p>(1) Establish and nurture employer relations in the Baltimore and Washington, DC markets including through site visits, networking, and participation in professional organizations such as WALRAA, NALP, and MSBA..</p> <p>(2) Work closely with Associate Director of External Relations to engage alumni through on-campus student programming and on- and off-campus networking opportunities and to build and maintain a meaningful contact list of alumni for student networking.</p> <p>(3) Provide critical market and employer information and analysis to LCDO, other law school staff and faculty, students, and alumni.</p> <p>(4) Strategize to ensure Maryland firms actively recruit UBalt Law students as private practice recruiting undergoes significant changes.</p> <p>Minimum Qualifications:</p> <p>Education: Juris Doctor (JD)</p> <p>Experience: Three to five years of legal experience inclusive of providing presentations, interviewing and public speaking</p> <p>Preferred Qualifications:</p> <p>Experience: Demonstrated experience in legal recruiting and/or career development or related field in higher education. Teaching experience.</p> <p>Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:</p> <p>Excellent interpersonal, administrative and supervisory skills. Strong written and oral communication skills, including the ability to make presentations. Counseling and/or advising skills.
