<p>Job Title: Counselor</p> <p>Wage/Hour Status: Exempt</p> <p>Reports to: Principal</p> <p>Pay Grade: Teacher Pay Scale</p> <p>Days: 193 ES , 198 MS, 202 HS</p> <p>Dept./School: Assigned Campus</p> <p>Primary Purpose:</p> <p>Work with school faculty and staff, students, parents, and community to plan, implement, and evaluate a comprehensive developmental guidance and counseling program at school assigned. The School Counselor will provide educational career, social, and personal guidance and counseling for all students.</p> <p>Qualifications:</p> <p>Education/Certification:</p> <p>Master's degree</p> <p>Valid Texas School Counselor Certificate</p> <p>Candidate must have satisfactory outcome of fingerprinting background check. Non-refundable fee (approximately $50.00) paid by the employee</p> <p>Special Knowledge/Skills:</p> <p>Knowledge of counseling procedures, student appraisal, and career development</p> <p>Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills</p> <p>Experience:</p> <p>Minimum two (3) years teaching experience</p> <p>Major Responsibilities and Duties:</p> <p>Guidance</p> <ul> <li>Plans, organizes, and implements campus developmental guidance curriculum consistent with district's guidance program plan and tailored to campus needs. </li><li>Assist teachers in the teaching of guidance-related curriculum. </li><li>Guides individuals and groups of students and parents to develop education plans, career awareness, and personal/social development. </li></ul> <p>Counseling</p> <ul> <li>Uses accepted theories and effective techniques to provide individual/group developmental, preventive, remedial and/or crisis counseling. </li></ul> <p>Consultation</p> <ul> <li>Consult with parents, school personnel, and other community members to help them increase the effectiveness of student education and promote student success. </li><li>Maintain a communication system that effectively collects and disseminates information to other professionals as appropriate. </li><li>Develop and maintain positive working relationships with other school professionals and representatives of community resources. </li></ul> <p>Coordination</p> <ul> <li>Coordinates people and other resources in the school, home, and community to promote student success. </li><li>Uses an effective process when referring students, parents, and/or others to special programs and services. </li></ul> <p>Student Assessment</p> <ul> <li>Participate in planning and evaluation of campus standardized testing program. </li><li>Interpret tests and other appraisal results appropriately and communicate to school personnel, students, and their parents in an effort to guide students in individual goal setting and planning. </li><li>Adheres to legal, ethical, and professional standards related to the assessment. </li></ul> <p>Program Management</p> <ul> <li>Plan school guidance and counseling programs to ensure that they meet identified needs, priorities, and program objectives. </li><li>Implement a comprehensive and balanced program. </li><li>Collaborates with school personnel, students, parents, and the community to plan, implement, evaluate, and promote continuous improvement of a developmental guidance and counseling program. </li><li>Advocates the school developmental guidance and counseling program, and counselors' ethical and professional standards with school personnel, parents, student, and community. </li><li>Compile, maintain, and file all required physical and computerized reports, records, and other documents. </li></ul> <p>Professional Standards and Behavior</p> <ul> <li>Comply with policies established by federal and state law, State Board of Education rule, and board policy in guidance and counseling area. </li><li>Comply with all district and campus routines and regulations. </li><li>Maintain a positive and effective relationship with supervisors. </li><li>Communicate effectively with colleagues, students, and parents. </li><li>Adhere to ethical and legal standards and model behavior that is professional, and responsible. </li><li>Participate in professional development to improve skills related to job assignment. </li></ul> <p>Supervisory Responsibilities:</p> <p>None</p> <p>Working Conditions: Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:</p> <p>Tools/Equipment Used: Personal computer and peripherals; standard instructional equipment</p> <p>Posture: Prolonged sitting; frequent standing, kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting</p> <p>Motion: Frequent walking</p> <p>Lifting: Regular light lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds)</p> <p>Environment: Work inside, may work outside</p> <p>Mental Demands: Maintain emotional control under stress; may work prolonged or irregular hours</p> <ul> <li>Includes information from the Professional School Counselor Performance Evaluation Form and Job Description distributed by the Texas Education Agency. </li></ul> <p>The foregoing statements describe the general purpose and responsibilities assigned to this job and are not an exhaustive list of all responsibilities and duties that may be assigned or skills that may be required.</p>
