<p>Department</p> <p>Florida State University Schools</p> <p>Responsibilities</p> <p>The Emergency Planning and Response Teacher is responsible for instructing high school students in the principles and practices of emergency preparedness, response, and recovery. This role involves developing curriculum, delivering engaging and relevant lessons, and preparing students for careers in emergency services, disaster response, and homeland security.</p> <ul> <li>Design and deliver instructional units on emergency management topics, including disaster preparedness, crisis communication, public safety, and response coordination. </li><li>Teach students about natural and man-made disasters, risk assessment, mitigation strategies, and emergency planning. </li><li>Integrate simulations, hands-on exercises, and scenario-based learning into classroom instruction. </li><li>Align lessons with local, state, and federal emergency management standards and career readiness frameworks. </li><li>Evaluate and assess student performance through assignments, projects, tests, and practical demonstrations. </li><li>Coordinate with local emergency services, first responders, and government agencies to provide guest speakers, field trips, or internships. </li><li>Maintain classroom discipline and foster a safe, respectful learning environment. </li><li>Stay current with industry standards, certifications, and best practices in emergency management and education. </li><li>Participate in faculty meetings, professional development, and school safety initiatives. </li></ul> <p>Qualifications</p> <ul> <li>High school diploma or equivalent and four years of experience; or a Bachelor's degree. </li><li>Professional experience in public service, law enforcement, public administration, or firefighting. </li><li>Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills. </li><li>Ability to engage students with various learning needs and backgrounds. </li></ul> <p>Preferred Qualifications</p> <ul> <li>State of Florida Teaching Certification preferred. </li><li>Familiarity with FEMA, ICS/NIMS protocols. </li><li>CPR/First Aid certified or willingness to obtain. </li><li>Experience using instructional technology and virtual emergency simulation tools. </li><li>Background in coordinating community emergency response activities or drills. </li></ul> <p>Other Information</p> <p>We proudly serve as a laboratory K-12 school, blending the rigors of academic achievement with a commitment to educational research and innovation.
