<p>The New England Conservatory, an independent not-for-profit institution, is recognized internationally as a leader among music schools, educating and training musicians of all ages from around the world. With music students representing more than 40 countries, NEC cultivates a diverse, dynamic community for students, providing them with performance opportunities and high-caliber training by 225 internationally esteemed artist-teachers and scholars. As part of NEC's mission to make lifelong music education available to everyone, the Preparatory School and School of Continuing Education delivers training and performance opportunities for children, pre-college students, and adults.</p> <p>JOB SUMMARY:</p> <p>The Instrument Librarian's main duties are to manage and maintain the contents of NEC's Instrument Library. This individual reports to the Director of Performance Production Services.</p> <p>ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:</p> <ul> <li>Work with NEC faculty, staff, students, and outside organizations to coordinate instrument needs for NEC ensembles, classes, private use, and renters. </li><li>Deliver and retrieve auxiliary and percussion instruments as required by NEC ensembles, classes, private use, and renters. </li><li>Manage the sign-out and return of the library instruments to NEC students and staff and maintain accurate records of these transactions. Follow up with borrowers to ensure all instruments are returned. </li><li>Oversee the rental, repair, appraising, purchasing, and selling of instruments. Select repair service vendors, Make independent purchase decisions for lower-value instruments. Work with NEC faculty and staff to determine high value instrument purchases. </li><li>Monitor and verify the contents and insurance information of the NEC Instrument Library and maintain the inventory database. </li><li>Prepare and manage the yearly budget for the Instrument Library's rental and repair accounts. Approve and process invoices. </li><li>Hire, train, and supervise student worker. </li><li>Work with the Registrar and Dean of Students to determine students' status and eligibility for instrument library borrowing privileges. </li><li>File reports and work with NEC Security and outside law enforcement agencies in the event of thefts of library instruments. </li><li>Work with Institutional Advancement to facilitate the receipt of instrument donations. </li><li>Assist with stage set-ups for rehearsals, concerts, and events as needed. </li></ul> <p>QUALIFICATIONS:</p> <ul> <li>Bachelor degree and a minimum of one year of related experience. </li><li>Familiarity with instruments used for orchestral, wind ensemble, chamber, choral, and jazz music. </li><li>Knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, and database PC programs. </li><li>Ability to lift and carry heavy instruments and equipment (up to 65 pounds). </li><li>Excellent oral and written communication skills. </li><li>Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. </li></ul> <p>NEC is an Equal Opportunity Employer that recruits and hires qualified candidates without regard to race, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, age, national origin, ancestry, citizenship, disability, or veteran status.</p> <p>Annual Clery Report</p> <p>In accordance with the federal Clery and Campus SaVE Acts, New England Conservatory of Music (NEC) commits to providing all current and prospective students and employees with access to the annual Campus Security and Fire Safety Report.
