Our mission is to empower students through educational excellence and experiential learning as we pursue knowledge, share our research and artistry, and engage communities for the benefit of the region, state, nation and world.</p> <p>Under general direction of the Electrician Foreman or designee, the Electrician will perform all duties particular to and required in the trade of a journeyman electrician. This includes all electrical work requiring expertise in installing, modifying, preventative maintenance and repair of electrical equipment and system, distributions systems, fire/security systems, street lighting, emergency lighting, cameras, card access, etc.</p> <p>Position Summary</p> <p>The Electrician reports to the Electrical Foreman or designee. This individual receives written and oral instructions for the execution of their duties. This individual also interacts with other Physical Plant staff, Heating Plant staff, Grounds staff, Building Services staff, Residential Facilities, Support staff, outside contractors and vendors.</p> <p>Essential Duties and Responsibilities</p> <p>Scheduled Preventative Maintenance</p> <ul> <li>Perform scheduled preventative maintenance tasks on electrical distributions systems, electrical motors, VFD's, Fire and Security systems, Emergency lighting, etc. </li><li>Assist other departments with preventative maintenance task </li></ul> <p>Onsite Electrical Shop Duties</p> <ul> <li>Perform journeyman level electrical work in the installation, operation, maintenance, modification, service and repair of both AC and DC electrical systems, equipment, fixtures and related electro-mechanical systems including transformers and distribution system </li><li>Inspect and test elements of electrical systems to locate and diagnose faults and malfunctions </li><li>Install, service, and repair lighting fixtures, electrical panels, outlets and wiring </li><li>Install, service, and repair fire alarm, security, and emergency lighting </li><li>Troubleshoot and repair all systems </li><li>Maintain strict adherence to relevant industry and employer safety standards </li></ul> <p>Project Duties</p> <ul> <li>Provide assistance during renovation of existing or on large-scale construction projects and other strategic initiatives </li><li>Be familiar with project costs and cost tracking </li><li>Follow cost-of-work practices with the budget </li></ul> <p>Additional Duties</p> <ul> <li>Assist with after-hours and weekend emergency "Call-Back" to supervise and/or perform repair jobs </li><li>Provide event support as assigned </li><li>Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and sketches </li></ul> <p>Other Duties as Assigned</p> <p>Minimum Required Qualifications (Civil Service)</p> <ul> <li>High school diploma or equivalent. </li><li>Experience sufficient to qualify as a journeyman Electrician, with a minimum of five (5) years (60 months) of actual work in the trade, including apprenticeship or vocational training. The trade for this purpose shall include work normally performed by Electricians i.e. installing, maintaining, and/or repairing electrical systems, generators, transformers, motors and other electrical/electronic controls, electrical switchboard and other apparatus utilizing electricity, electrical, electronic and direct digital control systems, fire and alarm systems, and associated electrical, electronic and fiber optic equipment. </li></ul> <p>Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs) (Civil Service)</p> <ul> <li>Skill in the use of tools and equipment. </li></ul> <p>Specialty Factors (Civil Service)</p> <ul> <li>Valid/current noncommercial Class D driver's license as required by the State of Illinois for the type of motor vehicle(s) to be operated by the incumbent. </li></ul> <p>Preferred Qualifications (Civil Service)</p> <ul> <li>The application and use of testing equipment utilized in checking, testing, and analyzing electrical systems such as Voltammeters, Voltage testers, Phase and Rotation testers, Multimeters, etc. </li><li>Regulatory codes i.e., local, city state and national electrical codes </li><li>Skill in interpreting schematic drawings, charts and technical instructions </li><li>Skills normally attributed to a Journeyman Electrician who has completed a recognized apprenticeship or vocational program </li><li>Ability to apply electrical formulas and conversions tables to job requirements </li><li>Ability to use hand and power tools applicable to trade </li><li>Ability to install, troubleshoot, and repair both mechanical locking and electronic access control devices </li><li>Ability to read and interpret blueprints and to lay out work from prints, tough plans, sketches, drawings and broken parts </li><li>Ability to problem solve and implement a maintenance solution </li><li>Ability to work with others in a large, diverse organization in a university climate </li><li>Ability to communicate clearly in a written and oral manner </li><li>Ability to understand mechanical systems </li><li>Ability to work with staff through supervision toward successful results </li><li>Ability to maintain good working relationships with personnel of other departments </li></ul> <p>Minimum Required Qualifications (SPS)</p> <p>N/A</p> <p>Additional Requirements (SPS)</p> <p>N/A</p> <p>Preferred Qualifications (SPS)</p> <p>N/A</p> <p>Physical demands/requirements</p> <ul> <li>Perform physical labor on construction and maintenance work where skill and experience are required </li><li>Ability to lift 80 pounds </li><li>Work at heights or depths of at least 30 feet or more </li><li>Must be able to work underground, in ceilings and in confined spaces and be able to maneuver and carry equipment to those locations </li><li>Must be able to speak clearly </li><li>Visual acuity to differentiate between color-coded piping </li><li>Ability to bend, crouch, kneel and reach overhead </li><li>Usually in and out of heated and protected areas; but, occasionally exposed to heat, cold, rain, snow, etc. </li></ul>
