<p>Peer Writing Tutor</p> <p>Position Overview: Peer Writing Tutors provide tutoring to individual students and groups of students in person and virtually. Peer Writing Tutors assist students in improving academic performance through writing skills development in mechanics of writing, grammar, citations, and more. Peer Writing Tutors model techniques, strategies, attitudes, and beliefs contributing to student success.</p> <p>Essential Duties:</p> <ul> <li>Tutor students on effective academic writing, and/or general study skills, organization, and time management. Peer Writing Tutors support students through individual or group-based tutoring sessions, both in person and online. </li><li>Show up to scheduled shift/session on time and provide updated availability information. Respond to emails and tutor requests within 24 hours and develop a tutoring schedule with clients. </li><li>Work cooperatively with students, other tutoring staff, and faculty. </li><li>Complete required training and maintain accurate records of hours and services provided. </li><li>Other duties as assigned. </li></ul> <p>Responsibilities:</p> <ul> <li>Holds tutoring sessions with students either in-person in academic spaces or virtually via Zoom. </li><li>Works with students to plan, study, and/or review course content. </li><li>Attends all mandatory training sessions. </li><li>Meets with supervisor for mid-semester check-ins. </li><li>Maintains accurate and proper records or tutoring sessions. </li><li>Responds promptly to messages or emails from students, their supervisor and other Library and Academic Support Services staff. </li></ul> <p>Work Experience:</p> <ul> <li>Expertise in a specific academic subject discipline and/or skill. </li><li>Passionate about helping others learn and an appreciation for different learning styles and abilities. </li><li>Strong interpersonal and communication skills, excellent listening skills, reliable, professional, responsible, resourceful, and able to "meet students where they're at." </li><li>Positive and supportive nature. </li><li>Have taken College Writing (ENG 120/121) or transfer equivalent and received a B or higher </li><li>Ability to meet students where they are and adapt to different learning styles and paces </li></ul> <p>Additional Details:</p> <p>Things you don't need to know but must be willing to learn:</p> <ul> <li>Citation styles (APA, MLA) </li><li>Identify and explain patterns of error in student writing </li><li>Offer constructive, clear explanations of writing rules and strategies </li><li>Basic guidelines for a wide range of writing assignments and genres </li></ul> <p>Equal Opportunity Statement:</p> <p>It is the policy of CSP to provide equal opportunity to all employees and applicants for employment in accordance with all applicable equal opportunity, directives and regulations of federal, state, and local governing bodies or agencies thereof, specifically Minnesota Statute 363.
