We are now seeking a full-time Engineer II located in Cheyenne, Wyoming. This position develops, refines, and reviews highway construction plans for contract bidding with minimal oversight.</p> <p>Cheyenne is a steadily growing community along the Front Range, but still true to the history of the Old West. Wyoming is one of only nine states with no state income tax.</p> <p>This position offers:</p> <p>$2,000 Hiring BonusSee notes for eligibility</p> <ul> <li>Culture of public service and a commitment to work/life balance </li><li>Health, Dental, and Vision Insurance </li><li>State Retirement plan and additional savings opportunities (deferred compensation) </li><li>Paid vacation, sick leave, and holidays </li></ul> <p>Come put your talents to work for the benefit of Wyoming citizens and generations to come.</p> <p>Human Resource Contact: 307-777-4356</p> <p>ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The listed functions are illustrative only and are not intended to describe every function that may be performed at the job level.</p> <ul> <li>Develops and checks contract plans and documents </li><li>Establishes vertical and horizontal roadway geometry and cross-sectional elements necessary for various types of roadways using the department's computer-aided design and drafting software </li><li>Calculates and refines excavation, embankment, and haul quantities </li><li>Designs and details other roadway features such as guardrail installations, culverts & drainage ditches, storm sewers, and pedestrian facilities </li><li>Ensures the designs and plans meet technical and policy requirements, State statutes, and Federal regulations, and recommends approval or suggests modifications </li><li>Calculates and summarizes pay quantities for contract bidding purposes </li><li>Issues intermediate plan sets and reviews the plans at inspections with other WYDOT Programs, writes inspection reports, and presents the plans at public meetings </li><li>Responsible for project documentation </li><li>Guides the design and drafting tasks of employees </li><li>Trains, coaches, and mentors engineers and technicians </li><li>Travels for field inspections and meetings, with overnight stays as necessary </li></ul> <p>Qualifications</p> <p>PREFERENCES:</p> <p>Preference may be given to candidates with a working knowledge of the WYDOT Road Design Guide, AASHTO Greenbook, AASHTO Roadside Design Guide, and ADA Guidelines for Accessibility.</p> <p>KNOWLEDGE:</p> <ul> <li>Knowledge of current principles of highway engineering </li><li>Knowledge of current design and detailing policies and procedures for the work unit </li><li>Knowledge of computer applications for design, detailing, and office automation </li><li>Knowledge of Federal, State, and local rules and regulations </li></ul> <p>MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:</p> <p>Education:</p> <p>Bachelor's Degree (in Engineering)</p> <p>Experience:</p> <p>0-3 years of progressive work experience (in Engineering) with acquired knowledge at the level of an Engineer I.</p> <p>Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:</p> <p>Engineer in Training (EIT) License or Fundamentals in Engineering (FE) Required.</p> <p>Necessary Special Requirements</p> <p>PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:</p> <ul> <li>This position takes place in an average work environment. </li></ul> <p>NOTES:</p> <ul> <li> <p>FLSA: Non-Exempt</p> </li><li> <p>E-Verify: WYDOT uses E-Verify, an Internet-based system, to confirm the eligibility of all newly hired employees to work in the United States.
