<p>Job Description:</p> <p>Location: Brooklyn Public Schools</p> <p>Position Purpose:</p> <p>Under the general supervision of the Special Education Director and School Principal, the special education teacher supports the academic</p> <p>and social development of students with disabilities by delivering instruction aligned with each student's Individualized Education</p> <p>Program (IEP) and the general education curriculum, in accordance with state standards.</p> <p>Essential Functions:</p> <ul> <li>Design and implement specialized instructional strategies based on students' IEP goals and the Connecticut State Standards. </li><li>Conduct assessments and diagnostic evaluations to identify students' learning needs and inform instruction. </li><li>Participate in Planning and Placement Team (PPT) meetings and contribute to the development and implementation of IEPs. </li><li>Support students and general education staff in carrying out IEP accommodations and modifications. </li><li>Collaborate with school administrators, related service providers, other educators to support students' academic progress & access to the curriculum. </li><li>Maintain open and consistent communication with families to support student learning and foster school-home partnerships. </li><li>Engage in ongoing professional development to remain current with educational best practices and compliance standards. </li><li>Maintain accurate records and documentation in accordance with school district policies and applicable laws. </li><li>Promote a safe, respectful, and inclusive learning environment that supports student growth. </li></ul> <p>Additional Duties:</p> <ul> <li>Perform other related tasks as assigned by the Principal or district administrators. </li></ul> <p>Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:</p> <ul> <li>Strong knowledge of special education principles, teaching strategies, and legal requirements. </li><li>Proficient in differentiated instruction and lesson design tailored to varied learning profiles. </li><li>Competence in data collection, analysis, and using student data to inform instruction. </li><li>Familiarity with relevant federal and state education laws and compliance practices. </li><li>Ability to effectively utilize educational technology and software systems. </li><li>Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills. </li><li>Commitment to continuous improvement and professional growth. </li></ul> <p>Education and Experience:</p> <ul> <li>Required: Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in education or a related field. </li><li>Preferred: Master's degree in Special Education. </li><li>Experience: Successful prior teaching experience in special education. </li></ul> <p>Note: The above description is illustrative of tasks and responsibilities.
