<p>Job Description and Duties</p> <p>Under the general direction of a Senior Environmental Scientist Supervisor, the incumbent will be part of the Watershed Enforcement Program and multi-agency taskforce responsible for the scope of activities primarily within 17 counties in the North Central Region. The incumbent applies an extensive knowledge of environmental impacts, a high degree of personal initiative, and independent judgment. Public contacts made in the course of this work are highly sensitive and involve a wide variety of stakeholders. Errors in applying or presenting the best available technical information may have significant consequences for the public, CDFW, and public trust resources.</p> <p>Participate in specialized and complex environmental investigations targeting cannabis cultivation sites. The incumbent independently performs assigned duties and has responsibility for developing California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW's) Lake and Streambed Alteration (LSA) Agreements, California Endangered Species Act (CESA) permits, Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA) and associated documents, and review, comment, and/or completion of documents necessary for compliance with the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) within the North Central Region. Will work with, and provide consultative advice to, local lead CEQA agencies, staff from California Department of Food and Agriculture (CDFA) and State Water Resources Control Board (State Water Board), and CDFW Cannabis Program staff statewide.</p> <p>In order to be eligible for this position, you must either be transfer eligible or take and pass the following exam.</p> <p>Senior Environmental Scientist (Specialist): CalCareers</p> <p>You will find additional information about the job in the Duty Statement.</p> <p>Working Conditions</p> <p>Ability to use a computer keyboard and Microsoft Office software up to eight hours each day; complete office tasks that require sitting, standing, and walking to other locations; attend meetings and conference calls; visit project sites requiring driving a state vehicle with travel up to four or more hours each way and sometimes including early mornings and late nights; willingness to work long hours and weekends; occasional overnight travel; hiking over uneven and possibly steep or wet terrain at project sites for reconnaissance and biological monitoring; may include operation of or being a passenger on a boat; occasional travel of two or more days per week. Field work will include driving a 4-wheel drive vehicle. Must be able to work in the field in varying types of terrain, under inclement weather conditions, and at various times of day or night as required by field work protocols. Must be comfortable with carrying and moving with a 25-30-pound backpack over uneven terrain, and operating equipment in uneven terrain and inclement weather. Must maintain in good order all issued program vehicles, equipment, machinery, and computers. Must possess and maintain a valid Class C driver's license and be able to operate a car, all-terrain vehicle, or 4 wheel-drive vehicles.
