Employees will then be afforded with all of the same rights and privileges of competitive class employees of New York State. While serving permanently in an NY HELPS title, employees may take part in any promotion examination for which they are qualified.</p> <p>OFFENDER REHABILITATION COORDINATOR/SG-19 (SEE TRAINEE TITLES BELOW)</p> <p>OFFENDER REHABILITATION COORDINATOR (SL)/SG-19</p> <p>OFFENDER REHABILITATION COORDINATOR (MANUAL COMMUNICATIONS)/SG-19</p> <p>Minimum Qualifications for taking the Open Competitive Examination: must have a bachelor's degree with a major in addiction studies, adolescent education (any subject), applied psychology, behavioral health, children and youth studies, clinical mental health counseling, community and human services, community health, community health and family studies, community mental health, correctional studies, counseling, counseling psychology, criminal intelligence analysis, criminal investigations, criminal justice, criminology, culture and deviance studies, deviant behavior, education, educational psychology, forensic psychology, forensic science/crime scene investigation, guidance and counseling, health and human performance, human development, human services, interdisciplinary cognitive sciences, law enforcement leadership, legal studies, marriage and family therapy, mental health counseling, occupational therapy, physical education, political science, psychology, public health, public justice, recreation, recreation education, rehabilitation counseling, social work, sociology, teaching, therapeutic recreation, urban studies and planning, visual arts education or vocational rehabilitation AND two years of experience providing individual and/or group counseling in a recognized correctional, criminal justice, or community/human services program aimed at assisting clients with the resolution of major social, behavioral, and personal problems. Experience must have included responsibility for conducting counseling sessions designed to provide the participant(s) with counseling for social and personal problems such as alcohol and drug abuse, mental, behavioral, and emotional problems.</p> <p>Substitution: A master's degree with a major in addiction studies, adolescent education (any subject), applied psychology, behavioral health, children and youth studies, clinical mental health counseling, community and human services, community health, community health and family studies, community mental health, correctional studies, counseling, counseling psychology, criminal intelligence analysis, criminal investigations, criminal justice, criminology, culture and deviance studies, deviant behavior, education, educational psychology, forensic psychology, forensic science/crime scene investigation, guidance and counseling, health and human performance, human development, human services, interdisciplinary cognitive sciences, law enforcement leadership, legal studies, marriage and family therapy, mental health counseling, occupational therapy, physical education, political science, psychology, public health, public justice, recreation, recreation education, rehabilitation counseling, social work, sociology, teaching, therapeutic recreation, urban studies and planning, visual arts education or vocational rehabilitation may be substituted for one year of the required experience.</p> <p>Non-Qualifying Experience: Group work oriented toward behavior modification in such areas as self-improvement of tobacco cessation, crisis intervention, or case management alone is NOT qualifying experience.</p> <p>Notes:</p> <p>If you are considered for an Offender Rehabilitation Coordinator (Manual Communications) position, you will be required to demonstrate your proficiency in manual sign language with consumers who are deaf or hearing-impaired. Proficiency must be at a level that will ensure your ability to properly perform the duties of the position.</p> <p>If you pass the examination for Offender Rehabilitation Coordinator (Spanish Language), you will be required to demonstrate your Spanish language proficiency at a level that will ensure your ability to perform properly the duties of the position.
