<p>Help keep Wausau moving. Join our Public Works team!</p> <p>The City of Wausau is hiring Street Maintainers to join our Public Works team. Applications will be reviewed beginning April 20th and periodically after that.</p> <p>Pay, Schedule & Benefits</p> <ul> <li>$22.78/hour or higher depending on qualifications </li><li>Monday-Friday | 7:00 AM - 3:00 PM </li><li>Overtime paid at 1.5x after 8 hours/day </li><li>15 days of vacation annually </li><li>3 personal days + 10 paid holidays </li><li>Generous sick leave </li><li>Wisconsin Retirement System (WRS) pension </li><li>Health, dental, vision, life insurance & more </li></ul> <p>This is a stable, full-time municipal role with strong benefits and long-term security.</p> <p>What You'll Do</p> <p>You'll be part of the team that keeps Wausau's streets, infrastructure, and public spaces safe and functional!</p> <ul> <li>Operate trucks, loaders, and a wide range of public works equipment </li><li>Perform street maintenance, construction support, and repairs </li><li>Assist with snow plowing, sanding, and storm response </li><li>Work on projects involving asphalt, concrete, and drainage systems </li><li>Respond to emergencies like snowstorms, flooding, or infrastructure issues </li><li>Work alongside a team that supports multiple City departments </li></ul> <p>No two days are the same-and what you do directly impacts the community.</p> <p>Equipment You'll Work With</p> <p>You won't be stuck doing just one thing. This role includes operating and working with:</p> <ul> <li> <p>Dump trucks (single, tandem, tri-axle)</p> </li><li> <p>Loaders, rollers, and backhoes</p> </li><li> <p>Asphalt pavers and sweepers</p> </li><li> <p>Snow blowers and plows</p> </li><li> <p>Chain saws, jackhammers, and more </p> </li></ul> <p>Minimum Requirements:</p> <ul> <li>High School Diploma or equivalent </li><li>Valid Driver's License </li><li>Class A CDL with N endorsement </li></ul> <p>Preferred:</p> <ul> <li>Experience in construction, street maintenance, or similar field work </li></ul> <p>What It Takes to Succeed</p> <ul> <li>Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions </li><li>Comfort with physical work (lifting, bending, operating equipment) </li><li>Willingness to respond to emergencies outside normal hours </li><li>Strong teamwork and communication skills </li></ul> <p>IMPORTANT!
