<p>Job Summary</p> <p>The Managing editor of the Michigan Times will be responsible for assisting editor-in chief of school paper in daily operations as well as assigning, editing, and writing content for the paper.</p> <p>Responsibilities*</p> <ul> <li>Working with the editor in chief to create and carry out short-and long-term goals of the student newspaper. </li><li>Developing and assigning story ideas. </li><li>Assisting in overseeing a group of reporters/writers and guiding them as needed to meet expectations. </li><li>Facilitating or co-facilitating regular editorial meetings. </li><li>Curating editorial schedule for online and printed content. </li><li>Critiquing and editing stories and coaching writers through revisions. </li><li>Developing and assigning ideas for photos and art to accompany stories. </li></ul> <p>Required Qualifications*</p> <ul> <li>Current UM-Flint Student </li><li>Willingness to learn Associated Press style </li><li>Willingness to learn and uphold ethical norms of journalism </li><li>2.5 GPA or higher </li><li>Strong writing and communication skills </li><li>Strong leadership skills </li></ul> <p>Desired Qualifications*</p> <ul> <li>Strong interest in writing and/or journalism </li></ul> <p>Modes of Work</p> <p>Onsite</p> <p>The work requires, or the supervisor approves a fully onsite presence. Onsite is defined as a designated U-M owned or leased work location within or outside of the State of Michigan</p> <p>Positions that are eligible for hybrid or mobile/remote work mode are at the discretion of the hiring department.
