<p>DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:</p> <ul> <li>Performs skilled and manual work in the construction, operation and maintenance of either water and/or sewer systems including work on water gates, sewers, side sewers, drains, main and connectors. </li><li>Lays and connects service pipes with street mains and meters. </li><li>Lays and connects sewer pipes. </li><li>Locates and repairs water or sewer leaks </li><li>Installs fire hydrants </li><li>Operates water gates. </li><li>Turns on water for new services </li><li>Inspects work of laborers and maintenance personnel to see that it conforms with specifications and blue prints. </li><li>Operates related motor equipment. </li><li>Supervise a crew of less than 3 workers as a lower skill level such as laborers and maintenance personnel. </li><li>Research water/sewer/drain records and mark out locations for dig safe. </li><li>Must be able to work overtime when needed by the department. </li><li>Takes apart and reassembles hydrants and valve mechanisms for the purpose of repairing worn or broken parts that cause leaks or other malfunctions. </li><li>Lubricates valves and adjust their settings. </li><li>Inspects hydrant rods, thrust plates, nozzles, packing and glands and other parts on a regular basis. </li><li>After fires, inspects hydrants to insure the water level is such that freezing will not occur and if freezing does occur, thaws out hydrant. </li><li>Others duties as required. </li></ul> <p>QUALIFICATIONS AND ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS.</p> <ul> <li>Valid Massachusetts Class D Motor Vehicle Operators License </li><li>Ability to perform simple mathematical calculations and write accurate reports </li><li>A basic ability to use personal computers </li></ul> <p>Application: To apply, please complete a City of Quincy Employment Application and follow the directions on the Job Postings Page.</p>
