This role is critical in facilitating language access, ensuring that multilingual learners and their families receive essential information in their preferred language. The interpreter/translator will work across various educational settings on an as-needed basis, both in person and virtually.</p> <p>Location: Various school districts (on-call) throughout Connecticut</p> <p>Responsibilities:</p> <p>Interpretation Services:</p> <p>Provide accurate, real-time verbal interpretation during meetings, including Individualized Education Program (PPT) meetings, parent-teacher conferences, and other educational settings, both in-person and virtually.</p> <p>Interpret spoken communication between students, families, teachers, and other school staff, ensuring clarity and cultural sensitivity.</p> <p>Translation Services:</p> <p>Translate written documents, including educational materials, notices, reports, and forms, from English to the target language and vice versa.</p> <p>Maintain accuracy and confidentiality in all translated materials, ensuring that translations are culturally relevant.</p> <p>Review and verify translations for accuracy, grammar, readability, and style, and edit materials as needed.</p> <p>Professional Development:</p> <p>Attend training sessions and workshops as required to maintain high standards of professional interpretation and translation skills.</p> <p>Stay updated on best practices, educational terminology, and cultural competency in the field.</p> <p>Communication Support:</p> <p>Provide clear oral and written communication from English to the family's primary language and vice versa, supporting mutual understanding during diverse meetings and school interactions.</p> <p>Answer questions and clarify information in both the source and target languages for internal and external parties, ensuring accurate and sensitive communication.</p> <p>Qualifications</p> <p>High school diploma or equivalent; college degree preferred.</p> <p>Proficiency in English and the target language(s), with proven experience in interpretation and translation in educational settings.</p> <p>Ability to read, write, and speak fluently in English and the second language, with accurate pronunciation, speed, and comprehension.</p> <p>Strong linguistic, cultural, and interpersonal communication skills.</p> <p>Ability to interpret and translate complex educational terminology accurately.</p> <p>Strong attention to detail, confidentiality, and ethical practices.</p> <p>Flexibility and reliability to work on an as-needed basis.</p> <p>Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).</p> <p>Proficiency in Google applications (Google Docs, Google Sheets, etc.).</p> <p>Familiarity with virtual meeting platforms (Google Meet, Zoom, Microsoft Teams).</p> <p>Ability to work collaboratively with diverse school staff, students, and families while maintaining confidentiality.</p> <p>Reliable transportation for travel to different school sites.</p> <p>Experience in educational interpreting and translation, especially in supporting special education (IEP meetings, curriculum materials).</p> <p>Ability to review and edit translations from others to ensure high-quality, culturally appropriate documents.</p> <p>Interpreter/Translator certification preferred or willingness to obtain certification/training.</p> <p>Working Conditions:</p> <p>This position is per diem and will require flexibility, as assignments are provided on an on-call basis. The interpreter/translator may need to travel to different school sites/districts as needed.</p>
