This position is in the Landscaping section of the Division of Facility Management. The primary purpose of this position is to support the Facility Management Division with implementing and maintaining sustainable horticultural practices to conserve natural resources and enhance our environment. This position will select, install, and maintain native plantings. Also, this position will identify plants, plant pests, and the ideal growth conditions for plants. This position reports to the Grounds Superintendent and provides research, analysis, and recommendations in the development and implementation of horticultural projects, programs, and goals for the agency. The hours of this position will be from 6:00am to 3:00pm Monday-Friday. </p> <p>Key Responsibilities: </p> <ul> <li>Installation and maintenance of seasonal plant beds and planters. Plant maintenance includes pruning, shaping, fertilizing, irrigating, disease and pest control, dividing ground covers, amending soils, mulching, and plant replacement. </li><li>Renovate existing, aged landscapes with new native and sustainable plantings. </li><li>Develop maintenance schedules for plantings, irrigation systems, fountains, and pedestrian spaces. </li><li>Conducting research into plant diseases and pests, diagnosing problems, and prescribing and implementing solutions. </li><li>Develop landscape design, cost estimates, and routine maintenance plan for landscaping projects. </li></ul> <p>Division/ Department Overview</p> <p>The Department of Administration serves as the business manager for North Carolina state government and provides leadership to state government agencies for the effective, efficient, economical and equitable delivery of services to the public. The department also provides assistance and services to several advocacy programs that serve diverse segments of the state's population that have traditionally been underserved. The agency's mission directs departmental efforts to: acquire, develop and maintain properties and facilities; create and operate an efficient system to purchase and dispose of goods and services to meet the needs of government agencies; provide excellent operational services to state employees; achieve fair and equitable opportunities and representation for various segments of the population that have special needs; and to provide administrative support to independent state government agencies. </p> <p>NOTE: "See Resume" is not acceptable to show work history.</p> <p>MANAGEMENT PREFERENCES:</p> <ul> <li>Considerable knowledge of the horticultural principles and practices applicable to the landscaping, maintenance, and upkeep of grounds, flowers, and shrubs. </li><li>Considerable knowledge of ornamental shrubs, plants, and flowers and their uses in landscaping buildings and garden areas. </li><li>Ability to supervise and participate in the maintenance and repair of tractors, mowers, and other equipment used in grounds upkeep. </li><li>Ability to plan and direct the work of a grounds maintenance unit. </li><li>Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with institutional personnel and commercial landscape firms and nurseries. </li></ul> <p>Other Requirements:</p> <p>Valid NC Driver's License.
