<p>Undertake the inspection of new and existing buildings and structures to ensure compliance with the State Uniform Construction Code. Also, it requires to enforce the Uniform Construction Code to ensure the safety, health, and welfare; to related work as required.</p> <ul> <li>Inspects construction jobs, checks quality and amount of work completed, and resolves construction problems. Enforces rules and regulations regarding the Building sub-codes. </li><li>A requirement of learning how to utilize various types of electronic manual recording and computerized information systems used by the office, agency or related units. </li></ul> <p>LICENSE REQUIREMENTS:</p> <p>Applicant must have a valid Building Inspector, High Rise and Hazardous (HHS) license issued by the New Jersey Department of Community Affairs and must continue to complete the code update education courses required to maintain their Building Inspector licenses. A valid New Jersey Only Driver's license is required if operating a vehicle, rather than employee mobility, is necessary to perform essential duties of the position. RCS and ICS License are also acceptable.</p> <p>KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:</p> <ul> <li>Advanced Structural and Foundation Systems Expertise: Demonstrated comprehensive knowledge of structural design and analysis techniques critical for evaluating heavily loaded and technically complex systems found in Class I buildings. This includes proficiency in assessing compliance with code requirements for advanced structural frameworks, as well as in-depth understanding of pile and specialized foundation systems designed to support extreme structural loads. </li><li>High-Rise Building Safety and Fire Protection Proficiency: Skilled in the application of fire protection standards and design methodologies for both conventional and non-water-based (exotic) suppression systems. This also includes expertise in high-rise-specific fire safety infrastructure such as compartmentation, voice alarm systems, and elevator emergency protocols, with a deep understanding of materials, installation standards, and code compliance strategies. </li><li>Mechanical Systems and Environmental Control Systems Knowledge: Possesses thorough understanding of HVAC system types commonly employed in Class I structures, with emphasis on design principles and installation verification procedures. This includes ensuring system adequacy and integration with fire protection measures, as well as knowledge of air quality, ventilation efficiency, and the application of safety and performance standards during plan review and field inspections. </li><li>Code Interpretation and Regulatory Compliance: Demonstrated ability to analyze and apply the State Uniform Construction Code, local building codes, and related ordinances to a wide range of building types, including residential, small commercial, industrial, and high-rise or hazardous structures. Capable of ensuring full compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and policies through plan reviews, inspections, and enforcement actions. </li><li>Administrative and Communication Proficiency: Able to effectively utilize both electronic and manual information systems for documentation, reporting, and recordkeeping within the agency or related units. Possesses strong communication skills in English-both verbal and written-to ensure clear interaction with contractors, design professionals, and the public, with accommodations available for American Sign Language or Braille if needed. </li></ul> <p>Resume should be sent to concepcionr@ci.newark.nj.us</p>
