We are committed to protecting the people of Louisiana with integrity, accountability, and a deep respect for the rights and dignity of all.</p> <p>This is a promotional opportunity for current LA Department of Corrections employees who have permanent status and are ready to advance in their career.</p> <p>The incumbent of this position performs highly responsible administrative work in the District Office of Probation and Parole that consists of a professional staff and a clerical staff and the supervision, direction, guidance and coordination of professional level staff in the delivery of probation and parole services with criminal offenders under supervision.</p> <p>Four years of experience as a probation or parole officer, or in counseling, psychology, social work, education, criminal justice, or administrative services plus one of the following:</p> <ol> <li> <p>Three years of experience in corrections or law enforcement</p> </li><li> <p>Three years of continuous active military duty (all Military Occupational Specialties apply)</p> </li><li> <p>Six years of full-time experience in any field</p> </li><li> <p>A bachelor's degree</p> </li></ol> <p>OR</p> <p>Three years of experience as a probation or parole officer, or in counseling, psychology, social work, education, criminal justice, or administrative services plus a master's degree in counseling, psychology, social work, education, business administration, public administration, or a criminal justice field.</p> <p>EXPERIENCE SUBSTITUTION:</p> <p>Every 30 semester hours earned from an accredited college or university will be credited as one year of experience towards the six years of full-time work experience in any field. The maximum substitution allowed is 120 semester hours which substitutes for a maximum of four years of experience in any field.</p> <p>NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:</p> <p>An applicant who has been convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence or a felony, or who is under indictment on a felony charge will be disqualified until relief from the disabilities imposed by state and federal laws is granted.</p> <p>Possession of a current Louisiana driver's license.</p> <p>This position requires the incumbent to handle and carry firearms.</p> <p>Possession of an active Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) certification.The official job specifications for this role, as defined by the State Civil Service, can be found here.Job Duties:</p> <ul> <li>Directs and coordinates activities of P&P staff in the delivery of services entailing release, intensive probation supervision, intensive incarceration/intensive parole program, sheriff's maintenance program, highly sensitive and complex criminal justice investigations for various decision makers in the Criminal Justice system including Judges, Parole Board, Pardon Board, Governor's Office and Interstate Compact, etc. </li><li>Formulates policies and procedures at the district level. Disseminates and interprets policies, procedures, and legislation affecting district office activities. Contributes input and information to the Division and Department in regard to the formulation of procedure and policy. </li><li>Maintains contact and collaborates with Sheriffs, Chiefs of Police, District Attorneys, Directors of treatment facilities and a variety of other officials and administrators, serving as liaison in the resolution of problems, coordination of services and development of mutual areas of support. Provides testimony before legislative committees when requested. </li><li>Delegates work assignments to include the assignment and distribution of caseloads, investigations, and special work assignments to district staff. This includes the development and monitoring of systems and procedures that ensure equitable distribution of workload and optimum use of resources. </li><li>Audits and reviews the work of the district staff. Holds regular staff meetings, conferences, etc., to discuss issues regarding new and changing policies, legislative changes, court decisions, etc. </li></ul> <p>Work Environment:</p> <ul> <li>Employee will supervise Probation & Parole Officers, Probation & Parole Specialists, Probation & Parole Supervisors, and Corrections Support Supervisor </li></ul> <p>Position-Specific Details: </p> <p>Appointment Type: DETAIL OF A permanent, classified employee of LA DPS&C - CORRECTIONS SERVICES (Adult DOC)</p> <ul> <li>An employee selected for detail may be permanently promoted to this position if a position becomes available. </li></ul> <p>Compensation: </p> <p>This position has a Special Entrance Rate (SER) of $38.67 per hour.</p> <p>Note regarding the advertised pay range: The maximum amounts listed are the maximum salary amounts a person can make at each level over their career and NOT the amount we are allowed to pay a new hire.</p> <p>Other Important Information:</p> <ul> <li>Any degree, certificate, special license, or DD-214 must be verified by official documentation prior to hire. </li><li>Any qualifying experience that is based on college credit/college hours should have an accompanying transcript for verification. </li><li>This is a 24-hour facility. </li><li>Applicants may be required to work shift work </li><li>This Agency is a Drug-Free Workplace. </li></ul> <p>How to Apply:</p> <p>No Civil Service test score is required in order to be considered for this vacancy. </p> <p>To apply for this vacancy, click on the "Apply" link above and complete an electronic application, which can be used for this vacancy as well as future job opportunities.
