<p>This temporary position will work with staff on the Environmental Operations Team in a fast-paced and dynamic Accredited Public Health Department. The position exists to protect the environment through helping community members adopt sustainable waste reduction and recycling practices. The successful candidate will work at one of the Washington County Environmental Centers in Forest Lake and Woodbury.</p> <p> </p> <p>The duties of the position will include screening incoming material to ensure only acceptable materials are being delivered, directing traffic in a manner that provides safety of site users and equipment operators, Direct site user to proper locations for all materials accepted at site and answering site user questions or directing them to the appropriate website or phone number. The successful candidate will have strong customer service skills and can successfully navigate difficult conversations with customers.</p> <p> </p> <p>Washington County Public Health & Environment values your experiences, perspectives, and unique identity. Sunday 11:00 am 4:30 pm. Work schedules (hours and days) and location are subject to change based on department needs. </p> <p>ANTICIPATED HIRING RATE: $16.50 Hourly</p> <p>E-Verify Participation: Washington County participates in the federal E-Verify program. The role plays an important part in protecting the environment by helping community members adopt sustainable waste reduction and recycling practices.</p> <p>The ideal candidate will bring strong customer service skills, maintain a calm and professional demeanor in difficult conversations, and demonstrate a commitment to environmental stewardship.Minimum Qualifications: Must be at least 18 years of age and have the ability to read, write and follow written and oral instructions. Must have valid driver's license and own means of transportation. Six months of customer service experience.1. Screen incoming materials such as yard waste, food scraps, and recyclables to ensure only acceptable items are delivered.</p> <ol start="2"> <li> <p>Identify and redirect unacceptable materials and provide information on alternative disposal options.</p> </li><li> <p>Direct site traffic to ensure safety for all users, staff, and equipment operators.</p> </li><li> <p>Guide site users to proper drop-off locations for all accepted materials.</p> </li><li> <p>Greet and assist residents in a courteous, professional manner, answering questions or directing them to appropriate resources.</p> </li><li> <p>Educate the public on waste reduction, recycling, and organic material programs.</p> </li><li> <p>Redirect non-participating county residents or unauthorized commercial users and provide alternative disposal site information.</p> </li><li> <p>Perform general site upkeep, including picking up litter, removing unacceptable materials, and reporting the need for snow removal.</p> </li><li> <p>May be required to shovel snow or apply deicer as needed during winter months.</p> </li><li> <p>Collect and enter participation and operational data using tablets or laptops.</p> </li><li> <p>Conduct surveys of site users on waste reduction and recycling programs</p> </li></ol>
