<p>The University of Notre Dame's School of Architecture is internationally recognized for its commitment to classical and traditional architecture and urbanism. Rooted in the Catholic intellectual tradition, the School fosters a rigorous and humanistic approach to design, emphasizing beauty, durability, and service to the common good.</p> <p>Position Summary:</p> <p>The School of Architecture seeks a dedicated and detail-oriented Academic Advisor to play a vital role in the academic and personal flourishing of our undergraduate students. Reporting to the Assistant Dean for Undergraduates in the School of Architecture, the successful candidate will be responsible for a dual function encompassing comprehensive undergraduate administration and proactive collegiate academic advising within the unique context of an architecture curriculum. This position demands a nuanced understanding of university academic policies, exceptional interpersonal and problem-solving skills, and the capacity for discerning judgment in interpreting and applying regulations within the specific framework of architectural education. The Academic Advisor will serve as a crucial resource for students, guiding them through their distinctive academic journeys and ensuring a consistent, equitable, and high-integrity application of the University's Undergraduate Academic Code.</p> <p>This position'd responsibilities include, but are not limited to:</p> <p>Undergraduate Administration:</p> <ul> <li>Collaborate closely with the Assistant Dean for Undergraduates on administrative matters specific to the undergraduate architecture program. The Academic Advisor will serve as the primary point of contact and advisor for undergraduate students in the School of Architecture, from their first year through their fifth year. </li><li>Interpret, apply, and maintain a thorough understanding of the University's Undergraduate Academic Code and the School of Architecture's program-specific policies and procedures, ensuring consistent and equitable application across all undergraduate student matters. </li><li>Process and manage dean-level exceptions and decisions related to undergraduate academic progress within the School of Architecture, adhering to established protocols and maintaining meticulous records. </li><li>Develop and maintain expertise in navigating university student information systems and relevant administrative platforms, with an understanding of their application to the architecture curriculum. </li><li>Contribute to the development and implementation of efficient administrative processes that support the unique pedagogical and structural needs of the undergraduate architecture program. </li><li>Assist in the preparation of reports, data analysis, and presentations related to undergraduate architecture student academic outcomes and trends. </li><li>Serve as a knowledgeable point of contact for faculty and staff inquiries related to undergraduate academic policies and procedures within the School of Architecture. </li></ul> <p>Collegiate Academic Advising:</p> <ul> <li>Provide comprehensive and proactive academic advising to a talented and diverse cohort of undergraduate architecture students, fostering their intellectual growth and supporting their academic and professional aspirations within the field of architecture. </li><li>Collaborate with students to develop individualized academic plans that align with their interests, design aptitudes, and the School's rigorous curriculum, including navigating studio sequences, history and theory courses, technical requirements, and timely degree completion. </li><li>Guide students in exploring and pursuing enrichment opportunities such as completing a second major or minor (where applicable), participating in study abroad programs (including the School's unique international programs), engaging in research opportunities relevant to architecture, and pursuing professional development activities (e.g., internships, portfolio development). </li><li>Develop expertise in understanding the specific curriculum, studio culture, and professional pathways within the field of architecture, enabling holistic advising that considers the unique demands and opportunities of the discipline. </li><li>Advise students on academic standing, probation policies, and available support resources, providing tailored guidance and referrals as needed within the context of an intensive design education. </li><li>Maintain accurate and confidential student records, documenting advising sessions and academic progress, including tracking studio placements and project milestones. </li><li>Actively contribute to the advancement of the Dean's priorities for the School's undergraduate education through proactive advising initiatives and a deep commitment to student success within the architectural discipline. </li><li>Collaborate effectively with architecture faculty, staff, and other university offices to provide holistic support to undergraduate students navigating the demanding and rewarding path of architectural education. </li></ul> <p>The University of Notre Dame is an equal opportunity employer committed to diversity in its workforce.
