<p>THIS POSITION IS FOR A SPECIAL ED PARA WITH SIGN LANGUAGE SKILLS</p> <p>7.5 HOURS/DAY</p> <p>Monday-Friday</p> <p>Pay Column I: $16.86</p> <ul> <li>Benefits </li></ul> <p>Job Title: Paraeducator - Special Needs</p> <p>Revised Date: July 2021</p> <p>Department: Paraeducators</p> <p>FLSA Status: Non-Exempt</p> <p>Work Year: 10 months</p> <p>Salary Schedule: Para - 188 day</p> <p>SUMMARY: Under the direction of a certified teacher, provide support to students with special education needs within the assigned classroom by assisting with students' individual medical and personal needs; practicing and reinforcing learning concepts with individual and/or small groups of students; assisting students in reaching academic, personal, and behavioral goals; adapting classroom activities, assignments, and/or materials as directed; collaborating with teachers to implement Individualized Education Plans (IEPs); monitoring and documenting student activities and behavior; and providing clerical support to teacher(s) and staff. Supports teachers and students within the PALS, CLAS, behavior intervention, essential skills, life program, progressive/adaptive learning, ADT, EDT, sign support, and other Specialized Assistance programs.</p> <p>ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty/functions satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.</p> <p>Job Tasks Descriptions</p> <ol> <li>Under the direct supervision of a certified teacher, guides students individually or in small groups with lesson assignments and personal interactions for the purpose of practicing and/or reinforcing learning concepts and assisting students in reaching academic, personal, and behavioral goals. Monitors and adheres to student's daily schedule and behavior plan to ensure consistency and academic/behavioral success. Administers tests, homework assignments, make-up work, etc. to support the teacher in the classroom. Adapts classroom activities, assignments, and/or materials and/or makes accommodations under the direction of a certified employee. Models conversations, manners, active listening, organizational skills, problem solving strategies, and everyday interaction to demonstrate appropriate social behavior in a culturally sensitive manner and to develop students' daily living and behavioral skills. Employs and supports appropriate de-escalation and restraint techniques (e.g. MANDT, etc.) as needed to maintain a safe environment. </li></ol> <p>Frequency:</p> <p>D</p> <p>% of Time:</p> <p>35%</p> <ol start="2"> <li>Supports the individual medical and personal needs of student(s) as instructed by a health care professional and after attending training. Duties may include administering immediate first aid, oxygen, and medical assistance and performing diapering, tube feeding, toileting, etc. </li></ol> <p>Frequency:</p> <p>D</p> <p>% of Time:</p> <p>15%</p> <ol start="3"> <li>Confers with certified teacher to assist in the evaluation of student progress, success, and recordkeeping. Documents student's daily activities, including behavior, completed assignments, on/off task times, etc., for the purpose of making data driven decisions. Provides verbal feedback and/or written documentation and reports observations and incidents related to specific students. Maintains manual and electronic files and records as required. </li></ol> <p>Frequency:</p> <p>D</p> <p>% of Time:</p> <p>10%</p> <ol start="4"> <li>Collaborates with teachers to implement and meet Individualized Education Plan (IEP) objectives. Observes students throughout the course of the school day to evaluate progress toward IEP objectives and/or implement accommodations and/or modifications for the purpose of maximizing student learning.
