We are dedicated to protecting the state of South Carolina and we would love to have you as a member of our team!</p> <p>Science| Service| Sustainability</p> <p>Under direct supervision, the Mining Compliance Specialist I determines facility compliance with applicable environmental laws, regulations, and policies that pertain to the Bureau of Regional and Laboratory Services mining and solid waste programs. Develop advanced knowledge and understanding of the mining program.</p> <p>Responsibilities:</p> <ul> <li>Determine facility compliance with applicable environmental laws, regulations, and policies that pertain to mining and solid waste disposal. Perform or participate in periodic operation and compliance inspections of permitted facilities. Perform all functions in accordance with the Standard Operating Procedures Manual. </li><li>Provide accurate, legally defensible data documenting inspections and/ or impacts of discharges to the environment and public health. Document determinations of facility compliance with applicable environmental laws, regulations, and policies that pertain to all other mining and solid waste disposal operations. Submit reports within the required time frames. Make referrals as appropriate. </li><li>Conduct or participate in investigations of unpermitted activities. Respond to mining complaints as well as those of other environmental programs. Assist in providing technical assistance and consultation to industries and the general public on state and federal solid waste regulations and standards. </li><li>Perform other duties as required, which includes, but is not limited to, attending periodic staff meetings and training. </li></ul> <p>Minimum and Additional Requirements</p> <ul> <li>An associate degree in a related technical field. </li><li>A high school diploma or GED and two (2) years of environmental health or related experience. </li></ul> <p>Note: Certification in the environmental field qualifies as related experience.</p> <p>Institutions of Higher Learning must be recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation.</p> <p>Applicants indicating college credit or degree(s) on the application are encouraged to upload an unofficial copy of the transcript as an attachment to the application.
