We welcome applications from individuals of all backgrounds and experiences and are committed to building a diverse and inclusive community.</p> <p>Position Title Maker Space Director Position Number 896525 Position Category Administration School/Division School of Engineering Department Full-Time or Part-Time Full-Time Description</p> <p>Reporting to the Department Chair, the Maker Space Director provides a learning environment where students, faculty, and staff can develop new opportunities at the intersection of art, design, and technology. The expectation for the applicant would be to continue a culture of innovation while fostering an inclusive environment where students and faculty will have opportunities to work on and display their creative and scholarly work. The start date for this position is August 1, 2025.</p> <p>Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:</p> <ul> <li>Oversees the daily operations of the Maker Space while maintaining lab safety protocols. </li><li>Operates and maintains all equipment, while also overseeing its usage. </li><li>Purchases materials and new equipment for the Maker Space. </li><li>Provides proper safety and operational training to faculty, students, and staff for the safe operation of equipment and use of the Maker Space. </li><li>Assists faculty during class use of the Maker Space, including workshops on equipment best practices. </li><li>Troubleshoots student and faculty projects. </li><li>Develops and runs demonstrations and hands-on activities for various groups, including middle and high school students. </li><li>Provides outsourcing services. </li><li>Performs other related duties as assigned. </li></ul> <p>Qualifications</p> <ul> <li>Bachelor's degree in a STEM field or Architecture required. </li><li>Two years of previous experience in a Maker Space/Fabrication Lab environment. </li><li>Experience with 3D Printers (such as Bambu Lab and Stratasys printers), CNC Machines (such as Tormach machines), and standard shop tools (lathe, drill press, etc.) </li><li>Experience with technical drawing software (such as AutoCAD) and the Microsoft 365 software suite. </li><li>Strong oral, written, and graphical communications skills. </li></ul> <p>Preferred Qualifications</p> <ul> <li>Master's degree in a STEM field or Architecture, preferred. </li></ul> <p>Special Instructions Deadline Open Until Filled Date Posted 05/27/2025 EEO Statement</p> <p>Hofstra University is an equal opportunity employer and is committed to extending equal opportunity in employment to all qualified individuals without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, age, national or ethnic origin, physical or mental disability, marital or veteran status or any other characteristic protected by law.</p> <p>Salary/Salary Range $65,000 - $75,000</p> <p>Additional Information</p> <p>Hofstra University provides the above salary* as a good faith estimate of the starting pay range which considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience and education. In addition to the salary offered, we offer a collegial and inclusive culture, and a benefits program which includes generous paid time off, paid holidays, tuition remission for employees and eligible dependents, and a retirement plan with University contributions.</p> <ul> <li>Salary ranges indicated for positions covered under a Collective Bargaining Agreement are in accordance with the CBA. </li></ul>
