To perform maintenance, custodial, landscaping and snow management work at RlSP properties. Maintain all areas of Division buildings and their grounds and the equipment used to do so. Perform basic maintenance/cleaning of Division vehicles. To do other related work as required.</p> <p>SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Work under the supervision of the Assistant Administrator/Facilities and</p> <p>Operations and sworn officers. Work is subject to review in process and upon completion.</p> <p>SUPERVISION EXERCISED: Coordinates, assigns, supervises, and reviews the work of a staff of Utility</p> <p>Maintenance Specialists engaged in performing various maintenance and custodial services.</p> <p>ILLUSTRATIVE EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED:</p> <ul> <li>Coordinate/schedule/inspect daily work assignments performed by assigned staff. </li><li>Oversee and inspect the work of private vendors and report progress to supervisory personnel. </li><li>Monitor supplies/equipment and order same when needed. </li><li>Provide appropriate training to staff in the operation of equipment/tools and related safety procedures. </li><li>Ensures that equipment is properly operated, maintained, and secured when not in use. </li><li>Review weekly time sheets to verify accuracy and completeness. </li><li>Assist in the preparation of annual performance appraisals/performance development plans for assigned staff, when required. </li><li>Perform custodial services including, but not limited to, floor and stair sweeping/vacuuming/washing & </li></ul> <p>waxing, building trash disposal. Cleaning and disinfection of offices, restrooms, kitchens, holding/cell</p> <p>blocks, public and garage area fixtures (toilets, showers, sinks, mirrors, counters, benches). Daily</p> <p>inspection of buildings and equipment.</p> <ul> <li>Restock restrooms, kitchens and designated areas with products and supplies. </li><li>Clean and maintain garage areas. </li><li>Maintain generator logs. </li><li>Maintain all power equipment. </li><li>Keep all lawn areas properly cut. Maintain trash-free lawn and parking areas. </li><li>Snow management, clear/ice melt walkways, clear snow from vehicles, direct contractors. </li><li>Perform minor repairs as needed. </li><li>Perform minor carpentry repairs as needed. </li><li>Dust/polish furniture. </li><li>Wax/buff wooden and/or tile floors. </li><li>Maintain supply of bottled water in dispensers. Replace bottles as needed. </li><li>Replace inoperative light bulbs. </li><li>Wash/clean windows. </li><li>Inspect building interior/exterior to assess needed repairs. </li><li>Paint interior/exterior of buildings at reasonable heights. </li><li>Escort building inspectors. </li><li>Plaster and make repairs to damaged walls. </li><li>Cement and make repairs to walkways, foundations, etc. </li><li>Wash exterior of Division vehicles and vacuum/clean vehicle interior, as required. </li><li>Will need to be available for the after-hours emergency calls when needed </li><li>Perform other tasks, as required. </li></ul> <p>REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS FOR APPOINTMENT:</p> <p>KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND CAPACITIES: The ability to plan, organize, review, and evaluate the</p> <p>work of assigned staff; The ability to organize and prioritize work assignments and meet required</p> <p>deadlines; Effective written and verbal communication skills; A working knowledge of the equipment and</p> <p>methods used in cleaning and custodial work; A working knowledge of building construction trades such</p> <p>as painting, plastering, carpentry, etc., Working knowledge of the equipment and tools used for the above</p> <p>and skill in handling them; Familiarity with equipment used for grounds maintenance and the ability to</p> <p>maintain such equipment; The ability to carry out instructions; and related knowledge, skills and</p> <p>capacities.</p> <p>EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:</p> <p>Education: High School diploma or equivalent (GED) and;</p> <p>Experience: Such as may have been gained through employment in a position performing janitorial work or grounds maintenance work involving the performance of one or more building maintenance trades, as specified; Experience working in a secure, public safety facility;</p> <p>Or, any combination of education and experience substantially equivalent to the above education and experience.</p> <p>Supplemental Information</p> <p>SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:</p> <p>Prior to appointment, the selected candidate must successfully pass a comprehensive background investigation conducted by the Rhode Island State Police.</p> <p>After appointment to the position, the selected candidate must successfully complete a 130 working day probationary period.</p> <p>At the time of appointment, must possess and maintain a valid motor vehicle operator's license.</p> <p>Benefits</p> <p>For information regarding the benefits available to State of Rhode Island employees, please visit the Office of Employee Benefits' website at http://www.employeebenefits.ri.gov/.</p> <p>Also, be advised that a new provision in RI General Law 35-6-1 was enacted requiring direct deposit for all employees.
