<p>Under supervision of the Fire Captain, Firefighter B & Paramedic License accomplishes a variety of duties in the protection of life and property. Participates in the combating, extinguishing and prevention of fires as well as providing emergency medical care, rescue and protection of individuals from hazardous environments. Maintains fire stations, grounds, and equipment, participates in fire prevention inspection, fire prevention, and suppression training.</p> <p>ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES</p> <ol> <li> <p>Administers emergency medical care to treat patients; performs Advanced Life Support (ALS).</p> </li><li> <p>Performs as a Paramedic under approved medical protocols, department SOP's and clinical standards of care.</p> </li><li> <p>Provides courteous and expeditious customer service to team members, the general public and Tribal Citizens while maintaining confidential information.</p> </li><li> <p>Responds to fire alarms, medical emergencies, hazardous materials situations and other emergency/non-emergency calls to protect life and property endangered.</p> </li><li> <p>Performs all firefighter duties; lays and connects hoses; directs water streams in the control and extinguishing of fires in structures, brush and grass; uses forcible entry tools, bars, hooks, ladders, extinguishers and other equipment.</p> </li><li> <p>Raises and climbs ladders; ventilates structures; accomplishes salvage operations.</p> </li><li> <p>Administers emergency medical care to treat patients; performs Basic Life Support (BLS); assist paramedics with Advance Life Support (ALS).</p> </li><li> <p>Participates in fire prevention programs and inspections to enforce fire prevention codes and ordinances.</p> </li><li> <p>Works 48-Hour shifts and overtime; may be recalled or held on duty according to the response needs of the Fire Department.</p> </li><li> <p>Operate a vehicle observing legal and defensive driving practices.</p> </li><li> <p>Performs other duties as assigned to support the e?cient operation of the department.</p> </li></ol> <p>EDUCATIONAL, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS</p> <ul> <li>High School Diploma or GED equivalent required. </li><li>One (1) year experience as a fire fighter (Career, Volunteer, or PCF). </li></ul> <p>KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSA)</p> <ul> <li>Establish intravenous and intraosseous access, place basic and advanced airway adjuncts and perform other advanced medical skills </li><li>Correctly interpret and identify static and dynamic cardiac rhythms, the appropriate medications, dosages and electrical therapies to treat dysrhythmias and other medical conditions. </li><li>Principles and practices of fire suppression and prevention. </li><li>Principles and practices of emergency medical care. </li><li>Operation and maintenance of firefighting equipment. </li><li>Safety practices and precautions pertaining to emergency services. </li><li>Ability to learn local streets, fire alarms, fire hydrants, public and local government buildings, and local hazards. </li><li>Read and understand departmental policies, rules, regulations and instructions to include: fire prevention & suppression literature and emergency medical care instructions. </li><li>Communicates clearly and concisely in English, both orally and in writing, with proper spelling, grammar and punctuation. </li><li>Analyze situations and adopt a quick, effective and responsible course of action. </li><li>Basic knowledge of computers and programs to include MS Office, PowerPoint and Outlook. </li><li>Establish intravenous and intraosseous access, place basic and advanced airway adjuncts and perform other advanced medical skills </li><li>Correctly interpret and identify static and dynamic cardiac rhythms, the appropriate medications, dosages and electrical therapies to treat dysrhythmias and other medical conditions. </li><li>ENVIRONMENTAL SAFETY -Demonstrates pride in the entire facility by maintaining a clean, safe work environment for guests and co-workers. A valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record as determined by the insurance carrier is required. </li></ul> <p>REQUIRED:</p> <ul> <li>California State Fire Marshal Fire Fighter II Certification. </li><li>Current EMT-P (Must be valid in State of California). </li><li>Valid ICEMA accreditation as an EMT-P upon appointment. </li><li>Current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS). </li><li>Current AHA CPR Healthcare Provider or equivalent. </li><li>Hazardous Materials First Responder Operational (CSTI or equivalent). </li><li>ICS 100-Introduction to ICS, ICS 200-Basic ICS. </li><li>IS 700 NIMS: An Introduction. </li><li>Must furnish upon initial employment with San Manuel Fire Department, proof of successful completion of any California recognized physical ability test (Biddle, CPAT, or any other recognized PAT) within the last twelve (12) months). </li></ul> <p>PREFERRED:</p> <ul> <li>Fire Control III and Fire Control VII. </li><li>S 190. </li><li>Driver/Operator 1A. </li><li>Hazardous Materials IC, ASO, WMD IQ, Tech and/or Decon. </li></ul> <p>PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/ WORKING CONDITIONS - ENVIRONMENT</p> <p>The physical demands and working environment described here are representative of those that an employee encounters and must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.</p> <ul> <li>Primary work environment is in a variety of settings. Work indoors and out in a variety of environmental conditions, including exposure to extreme heat, smoke, fumes, odors, vibrations, loud noises, hazardous materials, and noxious gases. </li><li>Work requires travel to attend meetings, trade shows, and conferences. </li><li>Incumbents may be required to work evening, weekend and holiday shifts. </li><li>Must be able to work in a fast-paced, high-demand environment. </li><li>Strength sufficient to exert up to 200 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects and/or move up to 200 pounds occasionally.
