<p>Job Title: Paraprofessional - Physical Education Wage/ Status: Non-Exempt</p> <p>Reports to: Physical Education Teacher / PYP Principal HR Revised: May 2025</p> <p>Department: Primary Years Programme</p> <p>GENERAL JOB SUMMARY</p> <p>The primary function of the Physical Education Paraprofessional is to assist teachers in providing for physical and instructional needs of students and achieve instructional goals and objectives.</p> <p>ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS</p> <p>Education/Certification:</p> <ul> <li>High School Diploma / GED required; Associate degree preferred. </li></ul> <p>Experience:</p> <ul> <li>Two (2) years of experience working with children in an educational capacity. </li><li>Must be legally able to work in the United States. </li><li>Must complete the state-required fingerprinting and criminal background check. </li><li>Must comply with TEA regulations, applicable federal, state, and local laws, school policies, and standards of the Professional Code of Ethics and Standard Practices for Texas Educators. </li></ul> <p>Required Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:</p> <ul> <li>General knowledge of curriculum and instruction. </li><li>Ability to work cooperatively with others in a patient, flexible, and versatile manner. </li><li>Must display strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills. </li><li>Must be able to multi-task and prioritize. </li><li>Must be able to work autonomously as well as a member of a team. </li></ul> <p>PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES</p> <ul> <li>Shares a strong commitment to the success of the mission, goals, and objectives of Westlake Academy. </li><li>Assists teachers in implementing curriculum. </li><li>Assists in maintaining an environment conducive to learning, including a neat, clean, and orderly classroom. </li><li>Supervises small groups of students. </li><li>Assists teacher in preparing instructional materials, administration, and scoring of objective testing instruments or work assignments. </li><li>Assists with inventory, care, and maintenance of equipment. </li><li>Conducts instructional exercises assigned by the teacher; works with individual students or small groups. </li><li>Supervises students throughout the school day, inside and outside classroom, as assigned. </li><li>Manages the behavior of assigned students as needed according to Academy policies. </li><li>Assumes responsibility for learning and adapting to each student's special medical, physical, communicative, and emotional needs. </li><li>Participates in faculty meetings, professional development, and special events. </li><li>Utilizes effective communication skills; ensures all interactions with students, Academy personnel, and parents are supportive, courteous, and respectful. </li><li>Participates in staff development training programs to improve job performance. </li><li>Complies with all WA policies/procedures, legal requirements, verbal, and written directives. </li><li>Uses methods and modes of instruction reflective of the IB program; directs the learning process toward achievement of curriculum goals. </li><li>Maintains confidentiality about children, their families, and other employees outside the school. </li><li>Possesses basic technology competencies. </li><li>Continually supports classroom methods, teaching techniques, increase knowledge of content subject matter, and interpersonal relationships. </li><li>Accepts and uses constructive feedback in a professional manner. </li></ul> <p>OTHER DUTIES</p> <p>Performs other duties as assigned by the PYP Principal or Head of School.</p> <p>EVALUATION</p> <p>Performance of this job will be evaluated at least annually by the PYP Principal or Assistant PYP Principal.</p> <p>SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES</p> <p>None</p> <p>PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/ WORK ENVIRONMENT</p> <p>The physical demands described are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.
