<p>In our 'always on' world, we believe it's essential to have a genuine connection with the work you do.</p> <p>As a Mechanical Automation Engineer II, you will be part of our Automation Team responsible for designing and building custom automation equipment for manufacturing CommScope's fiber optic products. You will work closely with manufacturing sites to design custom manufacturing equipment that improves quality, increases capacity, and reduces manufacturing costs.</p> <p>This is an on-site (five days a week) position at our Shakopee, MN facility and local candidates are preferred.</p> <p>How You'll Help Us Connect the World</p> <p>Development</p> <ul> <li>Produce creative concepts for machines and tooling designs to improve quality, cycle time, and reduce manufacturing costs </li><li>Demonstrate innovation by proposing unique ideas to the team. </li><li>Delivering new concepts through brainstorming machine designs, component research, hands-on bench testing, and feasibility testing </li><li>Develop, build, and test semi-automated equipment for fiber optics manufacturing </li><li>Hands-on bench testing and iterative prototyping are core to this role </li><li>Maintain an appetite for learning and stay up to date on the latest technological trends and industry standards </li><li>Work with other mechanical engineers in the team to develop and implement work instructions for the standardization of mechanical design processes </li></ul> <p>Mechanical Design</p> <ul> <li>Lead direct engagement with manufacturing sites to understand real-world constraints and opportunities for scoping new designs </li><li>Design equipment that enables ease of manufacturability, assembly, and end use </li><li>Work cross-functionally with electrical, process, and manufacturing engineers to ensure seamless integration of automation systems </li><li>Create complete design documentation packages, including drawings, BOMs, assembly instructions, and maintenance instructions </li><li>Conduct commercial component selection, such as pneumatics, electric actuators, sensors, and other automation components based on engineering principles </li><li>Perform hands-on work, including assembly, setup, calibration, process development, testing, and qualifications of equipment </li><li>Both lead and participate in design reviews and feedback loops with global teams </li><li>Take ownership of projects from ideation through build and qualification </li><li>Analyze data using Excel or Minitab to assess process performance during equipment development/qualification </li></ul> <p>Required Qualifications for Consideration:</p> <ul> <li>Two or more years of engineering automation experience </li><li>Bachelor's degree in engineering or other STEM major </li><li>Have experience with SolidWorks 3D CAD </li><li>Possesses great mechanical aptitude with the ability to read and understand 2D prints </li><li>Demonstrate proficiency with current MS Office applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Project </li><li>Be self-driven and highly motivated with a strong sense of ownership and urgency </li><li>Candidates should enjoy working directly with hardware and be comfortable in a lab or shop environment </li><li>Exhibit excellent communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate in a global organization </li></ul> <p>You Will Excite Us If You Have:</p> <ul> <li>Experience with PTC Creo </li><li>Experience with SolidWorks PDM for CAD data management </li><li>Have prior new process development experience </li><li>Ability to read and interpret electrical prints and codes </li></ul> <p>Our salary ranges consider a wide variety of factors, including but not limited to benchmarking by independent third-party consultants, skill sets, years of experience, training, education, geography, and other business needs. Depending on experience, the range can be higher for candidates with exceptional experience and a demonstrated history of successful performance. The expected salary range for this position is $76,000 - $95,000.</p> <p>The candidate will be rewarded with a comprehensive benefits package, including, medical, dental, and vision plans, life and accidental death insurance, a 401(k) plan, and participation in the Company's Incentive Plan.
