SCDE Transportation offers stable employment, exposure to modern fleet systems, professional development, and opportunities to grow within a mission-driven statewide organization.</p> <p>Job Purpose</p> <p>The South Carolina Department of Education is seeking a detail-oriented and dependable Parts Specialist to support school bus maintenance operations by managing inventory, parts procurement, fuel documentation, and administrative support activities. This position plays a key role in fleet readiness by ensuring technicians have timely access to parts and supplies and that procurement and inventory records remain accurate and audit-ready.</p> <p>Essential Duties and Responsibilities</p> <ul> <li>Receive, issue, organize, and track parts and materials using AssetWorks to ensure accurate inventory levels, proper bin locations, and dependable access for technicians. </li><li>Perform scheduled inventory counts, resolve discrepancies, monitor oil, fluids, and shop supplies, and ensure timely replenishment in accordance with purchasing guidelines. </li><li>Obtain vendor quotes, submit purchase requests, place orders, process procurement card and purchase order transactions, reconcile payments, and resolve vendor discrepancies. </li><li>Record fuel readings, order fuel, document non-agency fuel usage, prepare reimbursement invoices, and maintain underground storage tank documentation and required testing records. </li><li>Research parts using vendor platforms and schematics, assist technicians with parts identification, dispatch work assignments as needed, and provide basic computer and operational support. </li><li>Manage correspondence, filings, reports, audits, and documentation while ensuring all procurement, inventory, and fuel records remain complete and audit-ready. </li></ul> <p>This position is located in the Office of Transportation/Aiken Bus Service Center.</p> <p>Minimum and Additional Requirements</p> <p>A high school diploma and related experience.</p> <p>Experience in administrative, procurement, inventory, or clerical work.</p> <p>Ability to maintain accurate records and comply with state procurement and inventory policies.</p> <p>Preferred Qualifications</p> <p>Three (3) or more years of clerical, accounting, procurement, or inventory experience in transportation, maintenance, or warehouse operations.</p> <p>Proficiency with AssetWorks, vendor platforms, and standard office software.</p> <p>Experience supporting fleet, maintenance, or shop operations.</p> <p>Additional Comments</p> <p>Working Conditions</p> <p>Work is performed in shop, warehouse, and office environments with exposure to noise, equipment, fuel systems, and outdoor temperatures. The position requires lifting, standing, walking, and managing frequent interruptions in a fast-paced operational setting.
