<p>Dorchester County Public Schools is currently accepting applications for Translators / Interpreters. Responsible for facilitating cross-cultural communication through the process of converting one language into a different language to ensure meaningful and accurate communication between two parties who do not speak the same language.</p> <p>DUTIES:</p> <ul> <li>Provides consecutive interpretation services at one-on-one or small group meetings. </li><li>Provides simultaneous interpretation service at larger meetings or when requested at small group meetings. </li><li>Sight translates documents upon request during meetings. </li><li>Makes phone calls to families who speak languages other than English. </li><li>Maintains interpreter ethics at all times. </li><li>Researches relevant issues and technical terms as needed. </li><li>Performs other duties as assigned. </li></ul> <p>QUALIFICATIONS:</p> <ul> <li>High School Diploma or G.E.D. certificate; </li><li>Outstanding customer service. </li><li>Must be able to travel to different schools around the county. </li><li>Excellent listening, verbal, and written language skills for both English and another language. </li><li>Ability to accurately interpret conversation and presentation. </li><li>Knowledge of advanced grammar and usage in both languages. </li><li>Knowledge of school system terminology. </li><li>Demonstrated ability to work effectively with diverse populations. </li><li>Ability to effectively communicate with diverse communities and develop outreach strategies to encourage parental involvement in student learning. </li><li>Demonstrated ability to work effectively and engage diverse parents/guardians with varied communication styles, levels of skill and experience to support their child's education experience. </li><li>Ability to employ a variety of teaching styles to response to the needs of diverse learners. </li><li>Ability to employ business technology tools. </li></ul> <p>Please note that translators/interpreter hours will vary and be on an as needed basis.</p>
