This is a 12-month, non-competitive position, subject to a 52-week probationary period. Internal candidates who currently hold the title of Custodial Worker may apply for a transfer to this assignment. Requests for transfer are subject to administrative review and approval.</p> <p>Responsibilities:</p> <ul> <li>Sweeps, mops and waxes floors; </li><li>Vacuum carpets; </li><li>Washes windows, blackboards, and lavatory fixtures; </li><li>Dusts woodwork, furniture, and other articles; </li><li>Replenishes lavatory supplies; </li><li>Empties wastebaskets and collects and disposes of refuse; </li><li>Moves and arranges chairs, tables, and other furniture or equipment; </li><li>Assists with heavy work in kitchen and cafeteria; </li><li>Checks windows and doors to see that they are properly closed and locked; </li><li>May make minor repairs to furniture, electrical fixtures, windows and shades, locks, faucets, heating system, and other equipment; </li><li>May undertake routine maintenance tasks related to building operating systems, i.e.; changing filters, light bulbs, etc; </li><li>May perform grounds keeping activities such as cleaning snow, mowing lawns, raking leaves, trimming shrubs, and general maintenance such as clearing litter and debris; </li><li>Performs a variety of errands and related custodial tasks; </li><li>Sets thermostat, as assigned; </li><li>May be assigned to other duties as required by the Superintendent. </li></ul> <p>Qualifications:</p> <ul> <li>Working knowledge of building and cleaning practices, supplies, and equipment; </li><li>Familiarity with the operation and maintenance of heating systems; </li><li>Ability to make minor plumbing, electrical, carpentry, mechanical repairs, and perform a variety of routine maintenance tasks; </li><li>Ability to understand and follow oral and written directions; </li><li>Willingness to perform custodial and other manual tasks </li><li>Ability to read and write English; </li><li>Dependable and thorough; </li><li>Physical condition commensurate with the duties of the position. </li></ul> <p>Prerequisite:</p> <ul> <li>High School diploma or equivalency </li></ul> <p>Employment Terms:</p> <ul> <li>Hours: 2:00 PM - 11:00 PM - hours may vary depending on school/district needs </li><li>Salary Range: $47,031 - $69,731, in accordance with the corresponding CSEA salary scale - step placement is contingent upon prior experience </li><li>Fingerprint Clearance: SAVE Law: Effective July 1, 2001, Education Law §§305(30), 3004-b, 3004-c and 3035, as amended by Chapter 180 of the Laws of 2000, and Part 87 of the Commissioner's Regulations require the Commissioner of Education to request a fingerprint-supported criminal history background check for applicants for certification as well as for prospective employees of school districts, charter schools and boards of cooperative educational services (BOCES).
