<p>Under the general direction and supervision of the Division Dean/Associate Dean and the Program Chair of the Electrical/Electromechanical Technology Program, the instructor is responsible for providing regular instruction, developing and updating the courses taught in a classroom/laboratory, Internet, and or distance-learning environment.</p> <p>Teaching assignments for this position include, but are not limited to: National Electrical Code requirements for residential and commercial applications, programming and installation of programmable controllers, and installation and maintenance of electrical motors and motor starters. This position is also responsible for the maintenance of the labs and equipment, developing course objectives, implementing teaching strategies, advising students, monitoring and evaluating student progress, keeping accurate records, and working with the program and College teams.</p> <p>This full-time regular position is also responsible for the maintenance of the labs and equipment, developing course objectives, implementing teaching strategies, advising students, monitoring and evaluating student progress, keeping accurate records, and working with the program and College teams.</p> <p>The instructor is responsible for providing regular instruction, developing, and updating the courses taught in a classroom/laboratory, web-based, and or distance learning environment at the Milford campus, in the Prison Education Program (PEP), and/or other SCC locations.</p> <p>Essential Functions</p> <ul> <li> <p>Provide Student Instruction in Program Courses as Assigned</p> </li><li> <p>Provide instruction to a diverse student population in the Electrical/Electromechanical Technology Program in both classroom and lab environments. Focusing on layout, installation, and interconnection of electrical components in a typical residential house. Working with logic circuitry typically found in electronic control systems, such as those used for motor control, security systems, fire alarm systems, and energy management. Able to follow ladder logic control diagrams and can convert them for use with a programmable controller. Prepare necessary written instructional materials, including lesson plans, instruction sheets, and tests that will promote maximum learning for the students. Determine the appropriate material to be covered in the courses assigned to teach (subject to program director and division approval). Operate and utilize as part of the teaching process appropriate audio-visual and multimedia equipment and software.</p> </li><li> <p>Create and Develop Teaching Aids and Supplements</p> </li><li> <p>Create visual communication presentations such as, but not limited to power-point, Prezi, or other visual graphics software, use of interactive LCD projector, develop instructional aids on the computer, compile a library of training films on demand, DVD's and videos to supplement instructional techniques that reflect accurate and up-to-date methods used in the Electrical/Electromechanical Technology industry.</p> </li><li> <p>Develop New Courses and Update Existing Courses</p> </li><li> <p>Share responsibility for developing new courses and updating existing courses as required to keep the Electrical/Electromechanical Technology program current with industry standards and processes. New course development includes writing course objectives, developing syllabi, developing handouts and tests, researching textbooks and online resources, and collecting data for course use. Also, the updating of existing courses to ensure that each course is current with industry standards based on input by the advisory team or knowledge gained from the program DACUM is required.</p> </li><li> <p>Maintain and Upgrade Electrical/Electromechanical Technology Classroom/Laboratory Instructional Facilities, Instruments, and Equipment</p> </li><li> <p>Share responsibility for the maintenance of all instructional facilities, equipment, and program classrooms to ensure that they are maintained in a safe and proper working order for student use.</p> </li><li> <p>Complete and Maintain Program and Student Records</p> </li><li> <p>Be responsible for maintaining permanent student records on courses taught and for following and enforcing college polices regarding attendance, grading, and student achievement. Use of the instructional online course management software CANVAS) shell, Web Advisor, and the HUB are required in addition to effective use of Microsoft Office applications. Assist with the purchase of instructional supplies and equipment.</p> </li><li> <p>Maintain Technical Competency in Teaching Area</p> </li><li> <p>Attend seminars, professional association meetings, conferences, and educational workshops or other related training sessions to continually engage in self-study to stay technically competent. Participate in college activities related to professional development, diversity, and safety.</p> </li><li> <p>Participate in Area Campus-Based Program Activities and Teams</p> </li><li> <p>Attend, participate, and support any program activities (i.e., workforce leadership team meetings, Discovery Days division meetings, etc.) and College activities and teams as requested.</p> </li><li> <p>Act as a Technical Advisor for Students in the Electrical/Electromechanical Technology Program</p> </li><li> <p>Advise the Electrical/Electromechanical Technology program students on academic standing, support, and explain College policies and procedures with students to complete all records and forms, etc., as necessary for proper articulation and program operation. Other tasks included in this area: assist students in selecting and registering for courses; advise students on their academic progress, courses needed for graduation, and generally serve as the first line of communication between students and the College staff.</p> </li><li> <p>Individual Development Plan (New Instructors)</p> </li><li> <p>Each new instructor will develop an individualized development plan in cooperation with the Program director and as defined and supported on the Professional Development website.</p> </li><li> <p>Professional Development</p> </li><li> <p>Faculty are required to compile 3 different professional development activities during the year, as defined and supported on the Professional Development website.</p> </li><li> <p>Annual Safety Training</p> </li><li> <p>Faculty are required to complete all annual Safety Training as required by the College.</p> </li><li> <p>Perform Other Campus and Program Duties as Assigned</p> </li><li> <p>Duties will include, but not be limited to, substitute teaching as required, assist in developing budget, advise program director as requested, support and promote the College, the campus, the Electrical/Electromechanical Technology program, support student recruitment, assist in the security of all College and program facilities, instruments, tools, materials, and equipment, and assist in supervising student help. Participation in determining and updating the Strategic Plan and completion of the annual Assessment process is required.</p> </li></ul> <p>Promote a Culture of Belonging</p> <p>Support and promote an environment of belonging where all students, faculty members, and college employees feel welcomed, valued, and empowered to contribute. Support the College's policies and programming related to access, fair employment, and equal opportunities for all</p> <p>Marginal Functions</p> <ul> <li>Serve as an advisor for the Electrical/Electromechanical Technology program and provide instructional assistance to other College divisions and programs as requested to ensure quality education for students and that College policies and procedures are followed. </li><li>Teach Continuing Education customized training or off-campus Electrical/Electromechanical Technology classes. </li><li>Perform other related duties within the division/program as assigned. </li><li>May be required to perform associated duties, functions, or assignments in other divisions/programs/areas as required. </li><li>Perform other College functions and duties as assigned. </li><li>Must be able to work varied days, hours, shifts, locations, and campuses as required. Work schedules (hours/days/work location) are scheduled by Southeast Community College based on the needs of the College. Work hours, shifts, days, and work locations may vary depending on the needs of Southeast Community College and are subject to modification. Emergency or scheduled special activities may require hours outside of the regular workweek. </li></ul> <p>Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities</p> <ul> <li> <p>Possess specific knowledge and experience in the Electrical/Electromechanical Technology field. This will include the following: National Electrical Code requirements for residential and commercial applications, programming and installation of programmable controllers, installation and maintenance of electrical motors and motor starters that meet industry standards.</p> </li><li> <p>Specific Supervision</p> </li><li> <p>Ability to maintain a classroom/laboratory environment that is conducive to learning, including the ability to maintain proper order.</p> </li><li> <p>Ability to interact with colleagues, staff, students, and supervisors in a positive and cooperative manner.</p> </li><li> <p>Demonstrate effective oral and written communication competencies necessary to conduct classroom and laboratory instruction in working with a diverse student population.</p> </li><li> <p>Ability to devise and utilize appropriate evaluation methods for classroom, laboratory, Internet, and/or distance learning to closely as possible simulate real business and industry processes.</p> </li><li> <p>Ability to evaluate lab activities completed by students as objectively as possible.</p> </li><li> <p>Prepare tests and quizzes that are pertinent to the demonstration delivered, laboratory experiences provided, and present them on a regular basis. Score and return tests, quizzes, and other assigned work within a short time to keep students informed of their progress.</p> </li><li> <p>Ability to organize and present course material in a logical and timely manner using effective communication skills and to prepare and provide this information for various classroom formats, including an online course management system (CANVAS).</p> </li><li> <p>Ability to research in the required skill area taught, to acquire knowledge, facts, or related information that can be used in classroom lecture presentation and lab application demonstrations. Skill in acquiring this information from printed materials, books, resource people, Electrical/Electromechanical Technology associations, or the Internet is necessary.</p> </li><li> <p>Will conduct classroom and laboratory sessions for the clock hours described by the course descriptions for all classes assigned to teach.</p> </li><li> <p>Participate in the development and implementation of College recruiting activities designed to attract students to an Electrical/Electromechanical Technology career.</p> </li><li> <p>Participate as a cooperative team member of the Electrical/Electromechanical Technology faculty, working together to strengthen the program, respond to the needs of industry for the preparation of student workers, and demonstrate the need for students to develop a positive work ethic for successful employment.</p> </li><li> <p>Ability to stand for a two (2) hour period of time.</p> </li><li> <p>Ability to communicate effectively in writing, in person, and on the phone.</p> </li><li> <p>Ability to use basic computer skills.</p> </li><li> <p>Ability to lift and carry up to fifty (50) pounds for short distances and move tables, chairs, and media equipment when necessary.</p> </li><li> <p>The individual must possess the above skills and abilities or be able to explain and demonstrate that the individual can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of skills and abilities.</p> </li></ul> <p>Minimum Qualifications</p> <ul> <li>Associate's degree in Electrical/Electromechanical Technology. </li><li>Two (2) years' experience in the Electrical/Electromechanical Technology field related to the areas of assigned instruction in the Electrical/Electromechanical Technology program. </li></ul> <p>Desired Qualifications</p> <ul> <li>Documentation of an advanced degree or additional college training related to Electrical/Electromechanical Technology teaching and instruction. </li><li>Teaching experience in a secondary or post-secondary setting with knowledge in Electrical/Electromechanical fundamentals. </li><li>Teaching experience in online, hybrid format, flipped classroom, and progressive experience in utilizing technology in curriculum development and delivery. </li></ul> <p>Salary</p> <p>$56,100 per year</p> <p>Benefits</p> <p>SCC BEN Dollars - Eligible Employees: Full-time status. Regular employees with an FTE of 0.75 or greater will be eligible for SCC Ben Dollars. All employees will be required to elect a health insurance option. If the cost of insurance coverage selected by an employee exceeds the SCC Ben Dollars available, all additional costs will be withheld from the employee's paycheck. Any SCC Ben Dollars that the employee does not elect to use for the purchase of dependent health and dental insurance will be paid to the employee in cash at $0.93 per $1.00 benefit dollar. All amounts paid are subject to withholding for income and employment taxes, but not subject to the College's contribution toward the Retirement Savings Plan - Group Retirement Account (GRA).</p> <p>Schedule</p> <p>This is a full-time temporary position with an implied 40-hour work week, based on a 175-day work calendar. Teaching assignments for this position are scheduled and approved by the College between 7:00 a.m. and 10:00 p.m. Monday through Friday and between 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. Saturday and Sunday based on the instructional work calendar. Scheduled special activities, emergencies, or temporary schedule changes may require hours outside of the regular workday or workweek.</p>
