<p>RN JOB DESCRIPTION</p> <p>TITLE: School Nurse-District Float</p> <p>QUALIFICATIONS:</p> <ol> <li>Graduate of a professional nursing program approved by the MA Board of </li></ol> <p>Registration in Nursing</p> <ol start="2"> <li> <p>Current license as a registered professional nurse in the Commonwealth of MA</p> </li><li> <p>1-3 years experience in pediatrics, community health or related field</p> </li><li> <p>Bachelors degree in Nursing</p> </li><li> <p>Eligibility for certification in School Nursing by the MA Department of</p> </li></ol> <p>elementary and Secondary Education</p> <p>REPORTS TO: Director of Health Services</p> <p>JOB GOAL: To provide professional health services and coordinate the resource of</p> <p>the school, home and community as they pertain to the total health of</p> <p>students and staff.</p> <p>PERFOMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:</p> <ol> <li>Assess and evaluate students health, and the degree of significance of health </li></ol> <p>problems on student education progress</p> <ol start="2"> <li>Utilizes effective techniques to counsel students, parents and school personnel and </li></ol> <p>plan action for eliminating, minimizing or accepting health problems</p> <ol start="3"> <li>Assume leadership role in the identification of students with health needs that </li></ol> <p>interfere with effective learning</p> <ol start="4"> <li> <p>Provide programs for the prevention and control of disease</p> </li><li> <p>Coordinate health services with other health disciplines in order to fulfill a total</p> </li></ol> <p>health education program.</p> <ol start="6"> <li> <p>Coordinate health services with community health programs</p> </li><li> <p>Observe school facilities and recommends modifications necessary to maintain</p> </li></ol> <p>optimum health and safety of students and school personnel.</p> <ol start="8"> <li>Respond to Frequently encountered health and social problems: </li></ol> <ul> <li>Child abuse and neglect </li><li>Alcohol and other drug use </li><li>Nutrition problems and eating disorders </li><li>Teen pregnancy </li></ul> <ol start="9"> <li>Collaborate/cooperate with community providers and state agencies to meet the </li></ol> <p>health and social service needs of the students</p> <ol start="10"> <li>Organize, carry out and report on mandated health screenings and makes </li></ol> <p>appropriate referrals and follow up on vision, hearing and scoliosis screening failures</p> <ol start="11"> <li>Is a resource to the student, parent, principal and teachers in matters pertaining to </li></ol> <p>health.</p> <ol start="12"> <li>Demonstrates knowledge of and ability to administer medications appropriately, in </li></ol> <p>keeping with the school policy on administration of medication in the school</p> <ol start="13"> <li>Assess family history and home situations which may affect a students health when </li></ol> <p>necessary.</p> <ol start="14"> <li>Complete health assessments for special education evaluations. Participates in team </li></ol> <p>evaluations and conferences on all children with medical problems.</p> <ol start="15"> <li> <p>Maintain an accurate health record on each student.</p> </li><li> <p>Document First Aid and Illness care provided to students. First aid for injured staff.</p> </li></ol> <p>Completes accident reports, and maintains a record of health office activity.</p> <ol start="17"> <li>Screen all new students to ensure compliance with immunization laws, and makes </li></ol> <p>recommendations for exclusion of students for lack of compliance to school</p> <p>administration.</p> <ol start="18"> <li>Recommend exclusion and monitors readmission to school for students with </li></ol> <p>infectious or communicable diseases.</p> <ol start="19"> <li> <p>Maintain first aid supplies and equipment in an appropriate location in the school</p> </li><li> <p>Other nursing duties as assigned</p> </li></ol> <p>TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: According to teacher contract</p> <p>EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated on accordance with the</p> <p>provision of the boards policy on evaluation</p> <p>Pay: $56,415-$84,063</p> <p>Position : 395260001</p> <p>Location : CENTRAL OFFICE</p> <p>Posting End : 01/01/9999</p> <p>SALARY RANGE: $56,415.00-$84,063.00</p>
