The Indiana School for the Deaf is accredited by AdvancED Indiana and the Conference of Educational Administrators of Schools and Programs for the Deaf (CEASD). It provides services to approximately 342 students enrolled on campus. About 60% of the students live on campus during the academic year. ISD offers a full range of social activities, including sports, clubs, and organizations.</p> <p>Role Overview:</p> <p>The School Police / Student Resource Officer ensures the safety and security of the school community while delivering excellent customer service and maintaining a clean, welcoming environment for all guests. This role requires making decisions using established protocols, sound judgment, and strong problem-solving skills. The position may require working nights, weekends, and holidays as scheduled in advance to cover coworker absences.</p> <p>Candidates who are selected for an interview will also be scheduled to complete a physical ability assessment. After passing the physical ability assessment, candidates will be scheduled to complete a medical and psychological assessment.</p> <p>If hired, you will complete the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy's 40-hour Prebasic class and then, within one year, complete the Tier 1 Basic Certification.</p> <p>Salary:</p> <p>The salary for this position traditionally starts at $31,668 but may be commensurate with education or work experience.</p> <p>Use our Compensation Calculator to view the total compensation package.</p> <p>A Day in the Life:</p> <p>The essential functions of this role are as follows:</p> <ul> <li>Provide excellent customer service to the guests to ensure the safety of all visitors. </li><li>Educate customers on all property regulations and use customer service techniques to gain voluntary compliance. </li><li>Manage responsibilities for employee safety and security during shift change and during transport and deposits of revenue. </li><li>Patrol and inspect the property to ensure the security and safety of buildings, grounds, patrons, and employees. </li><li>Conduct routine safety inspections of grounds and facilities, which may include playgrounds, buildings, or equipment such as fire extinguishers, smoke detectors, etc. </li><li>Respond to emergency situations on the property such as missing persons, accidents, first-aid?emergencies, domestic disputes, and alcohol-related problems. </li><li>Respond to non-emergency property disruptions. </li><li>Resolve property complaints and obtain voluntary compliance from guests for minor rule violations and disputes. </li><li>Complete any required documentation including accident reports, incidents reports, individual statements, and daily patrol reports. </li><li>Perform routine labor and grounds maintenance duties such as mowing, weed eating, picking up brass, removing trash, etc. </li><li>Act as a backup for sales of campsites, resale items, sales of annual and daily entrance permits. </li><li>Assist law enforcement and emergency personnel when called upon to do so. </li><li>Workday attendance at assigned worksite(s) is an essential function of this position. </li></ul> <p>The job profile is not designed to cover or contain a comprehensive listing of activities, duties or responsibilities that are required of the employee.
