To learn more about what we offer, please refer to UW's Benefits Summary.</p> <p>JOB TITLE:</p> <p>Mechanic/Operator, Energy Production</p> <p>This essential position is based in the UW Central Energy Plant which is manned 24/7.</p> <p>Employees will occasionally be required to work varying shifts; shifts are as follows:</p> <ul> <li>7AM-3PM </li><li>3PM-11PM </li><li>11PM-7AM </li></ul> <p>JOB PURPOSE:</p> <p>Maintenance and repair of energy plant equipment to meet heating, air-conditioning and compressed air needs of the university campus. Act as Plant Operator or Auxiliary Operator for the Central Energy Plant and West Campus Energy Plant, as directed (see other job descriptions for details of job tasks/duties).</p> <p>ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:</p> <ul> <li>Maintain, repair and rebuild energy plant equipment and systems; including coal and gas-fired boilers and their computerized control systems, coal and ash conveyance systems, water purification systems, diesel generators, air compressors, steam turbines, various types of pumps and fans, chillers, cooling towers, heat exchangers and a thermal energy storage system. </li><li>Perform functions of Plant Operator or Auxiliary Operator, as directed, usually filling in for employees who are out on vacation/sick or other leave (see appropriate job descriptions for job tasks/duties). </li><li>Train less experienced mechanics and operators in the operation and maintenance of boilers and chillers under normal and emergency conditions. </li></ul> <p>SUPPLEMENTAL FUNCTIONS:</p> <ul> <li>Respond to after-hours emergency call-outs for equipment repair or Plant Operator / Auxiliary Operator shift coverage. </li><li>Assist in the design and implementation of mechanical alterations to new and existing equipment. </li><li>Occasional assignment to shift work. </li><li>Maintain designated area in clean and safe operating conditions. </li><li>Other duties as assigned. </li></ul> <p>COMPETENCIES:</p> <ul> <li>Technical/Professional Knowledge </li><li>Analysis/Problem Identification </li><li>Work Standards </li><li>Attention to Detail </li><li>Initiative </li><li>Communication </li><li>Adaptability </li></ul> <p>MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:</p> <p>Education: Vocational School, On-the-Job Experience, or Associate's Degree</p> <p>Experience: 2 years work-related experience</p> <p>Required licensure, certification, registration or other requirements:</p> <ul> <li>Respirator qualification within one month of hire. </li><li>Possess a valid driver's license with a motor vehicle record (MVR) compliant with the University Vehicle Use Policy. </li></ul> <p>DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:</p> <ul> <li>Two years of appropriate vocational schooling, or two years of boiler operator experience or equivalent combination of education and experience. </li><li>CFC/HCFC Refrigerant Operations License. </li><li>Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills. </li><li>An ability to be a productive team member. </li></ul> <p>REQUIRED APPLICATION MATERIALS:</p> <p>Complete the online application.
